Lincoln Riley .... was gifted a playoff team...when he skulked out of town he barely got third place in a down year for the Big 12, even though he had two #1 rated 5 star QBs and 11 NFL combine invitees.....

this is the one for me. But to be fair wasnt realyl his fault and he should have left when they offered him the out when sanctions were announced.

this is another i thought would do pretty good. i thought ucla with him would recruit itself enough to win. But as soon as he said he wasnt going back to the oregon offense i knew he would ultimately fail.

the rest i thought would fail. they were fools gold. especially herman although i thought he would do better than he did.

Nah, no one really thought he was a homerun hire and would crush it.

I'll specify Muschamp in Gainesville. After his time at the Barn's DC, I didn't think he would kill it at Carolina.

I thought Dooley would do well at UTK. I chalk that up to my UGA bias.

They had a massive O Line with historic running games.
Yeah I thought Bert would do better. Seemed like Arkansas was a perfect fit considering the way Bert's Wisconsin teams played; huge OL, great RBs.

Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss. Even a championship coach can't win at Ole Miss.

100% agree, I thought he was going to be their next Mac Brown.

On the opposite end, I thought Mac Brown at NC would crash and burn, he has done very well there.

I guess the Jury is still out on Harbaugh at Michigan, but I thought he would have that program running the B10 in a few years. Credit to Michigan, they stuck with their guy and it might be paying dividends now.

Eh... I mean he is on paper but we all know the coordinators won that championship. All Orgeron had to do was sit back and not frick it up

Fair. They were extremely close in a lot of games last year despite their 3-9 record, but so was Charlie Strong in his first and last year.

Frost has been at Nebraska for 4 years and hasn't won more than 5 games in a single season. Their best conference record was 3-5 thanks to the Covid season.

Not even Charlie Strong was that bad. Shocked that Nebraska stuck with him after this year.

Mullen at Florida.

With all of UF's advantages and after what he accomplished at MSU, I thought Mullen was going to turn UF into an absolute monster.

Instead he turned all goofy and wore halloween costumes to press conferences. SMH.

True, but what Mullen accomplished at Mississippi state was definitely worth noting. He’d turned Mississippi state into a legit team that would not be pushed around by anyone.

I can't argue with any of the names mentioned in this thread except to say that I didn't expect Frost to kill it at Nebraska. It was like he took the job because it's what he was expected to do, like marrying a girl because you dated her for a while and your family really likes her.

It's funny how coaches can win at some places and yet crash and burn at others.

Undefeated team at Tulane while OC

Gets WV rolling and a consistent BCS contender

I thought Michigan was about to become what Ohio state eventually became under Urban

I'd say losing 7 of your last 10 games and the only three wins were against teams with a losing record while having record breaking worst defense in UF history is crashing and burning.

Yes, this was definitely a crash and burn. Glad to be rid of him. NEXT!

I would say Howard Schnellenberger at Oklahoma, but looking back at his overall coaching record, he really didn't have a lot of good seasons outside of his time in Miami. Years ago I read that there was a push to make him Bear Bryant's replacement.
