UT has made it virtually impossible for anyone to succeed there. The boosters all want to suck their own dicks and boost their egos that they won’t let a head coach come in and rule with 100% autocracy. Similar to Bama before Saban told them all to eat shite.

Bert was an alcoholic and lazy. He had a big mouth and never walked the talk.

I was in Fayetteville not long after Bert was hired. I thought it was a homerun. But having a few beers at Mickey Finns one evening and sat next to a Wisconsin fan in town. He told me he expected Bert to wash out quickly. Just a meat head who’s alcoholism would catch up to him at Arkansas. Damn if he wasn’t right.

I really thought Butch Jones would be successful at UT

He should've been and probably would've been if he hadn't been so thin skinned. He couldn't handle the spotlight or all that SEC ball entailed.

Still can't believe he ran off Hendon Hooker. Dude legit gave Hendon hell over not being 100 percent back after a bout of COVID and complications that were severe enough that HH's docs told him he might not ever play again.

Barry Alvarez retired but he was still the head coach even if Bert was by name. He was a Jeff Long hire who himself was fired here and at Kansas. I wanted Mike Gundy which I felt his personality and offense would be a better fit at Arkansas.

I'm going way back here but the all time champion for this thread is Gerry Faust at Notre Dame.

That dude came in as a HS coach but he had more hype than just about any new coach ever. They won his first game big over LSU and people were talking dynasty. But that was pretty much the high point of his career. Got drilled in his second game and they were never better than a .500 team during his tenure.

I don’t know about complete failure but I thought Franklin would have been much better at Penn State.

That and Manny Diaz at Miami

Until last year, I would've said Harbaugh was near the top of any list. I would still call his tenure at Michigan a failure.

Terry Bowden crushed it his first two years at AU with Coach Dye's recruits, then flamed out with his recruits.

Danny Ford. Won a natty at Clemson in the mighty ACC, best regular season was 8-4 followed by a bowl loss but went to the SECCG that year.

One would think a natty winning coach from the ACC could do better than 8-4. But he did recruit well and left some good players for Nutt to ride a couple of years.

They fired him too quickly. Had he stuck around for NIL, he would have been pretty good considering boosters would buy the players and he wouldn’t have to recruit.

Same with cousin Eddie down at Florida.

You could say this about all coaches.
