Why not have a coaching search to find out. Maybe you end up with Pete in the end, but why not open it up to see?
Like I said earlier, it felt like a panic move similar to the DNC not having a primary when Biden dropped out.
Maybe so, but with playoff coming up and Lane threatening to pull assistants, I think ADKC had to possibly sacrifice a little bit of the future for now with us making the playoffs,.
Maybe there is no sacrifice, but I think had Keith just slapped an interim tag on someone, there is a chance Pete is going to LSU too along with a ton of the other assistants at a time when you got a good shot to win some playoff games and see what happens.
And I think with what was left available after Sumrall and Golesh took jobs, he thought with everything going on, why not Pete...I mean from all accounts, very highly respected and thought of to be really smart.
And so far I like how he is building out his staff.
Plus hiring Pete immediately shows confidence in Pete, vs hiring Pete after a long search. Then it looks like you were just left with Pete and had to make the hire. Hiring him immediately showed you wanted to make the hire, at least in perception. Sort of like what Notre Dame did promoting Freeeman instantly after Kel;ly left.

ou're telling me no one else was available?
C'mon dude... don't play dumb because you settled on a dude who was not on literally anyone else's coaching radar.
Why have to hire an outside up and comer when you're program from top to bottom is absolutely rolling.
We will see if it was the right decision but I don't think its the oddest thing to do when things are going great.

It seems like most of the things Ole Miss fans are mad about are unsubstantiated reports from insiders who have been wrong throughout this entire ordeal.
Very well could be true. Look...I am big Ole Miss fan and am really thankful for what Lane did at Ole Miss and proud of what he and our administration have accomplished. 50 wins in 5 years is baller, 3 straight 10+ win seasons, currently 12-1. I'll f'n take it!
Completely understand Lane leaving to take the LSU job too and completely understand the calendar is screwed.
Right or wrong, I just wish Lane could have left in a way that didn't create such animosity. Maybe that can never happen, but I wish we could all be thankful for what he did at Ole Miss, and he could be thankful for what Ole Miss did for him, and we could all just move on. Time will heal I am sure, especially if Pete does good moving forward.

With that said, I don't understand why Ole Miss didn't even attempt to have a coaching search. With how well the program has performed recently, it surely could've gotten someone with a higher upside than Golding. It made perfect sense to make him the interim to stabilize things for the playoff run and the early signing period, but then go have a legit coaching search and poach an up-and-comer who will leave wherever they are in a heartbeat for a chance at an SEC job.
By the time Lane actually quit dragging it out, Sumrall, Golesh etc. were too far down the roads with other programs.
Pete Golding was hired to keep roster in tact especially with a playoff run.
Last 5 years have been great, why not promote form within. I get hiring from the outside when things have been a dumpster fire and you need a clean start/ but that has not been the case at Ole Miss.
But keeping the ball and momentum rolling as much as you can was a good decision by ADKC.
I think Pete is going to be a solid hire. He's a stud to me. After watching Pete since he got hired I have been really impressed,.
He also spent many years at Bama with Saban and I will take that model all day long.

How did he try to burn it down?
Publicly sending his family to tour LSU and Florida when he was still Ole Miss coach.
Bitching about our crowd for Citadel game when everyone across the country was facing the same issues for shite OOC games... in a year when our crowds have been absolutely fantastic.
Having to get escorted out of Manning facility because he threw a tempter tantrum when he finally realized he wasn't getting to coach the playoffs.
Telling assistants they had to get on plane with him or else they wouldn't have a job at LSU.
He and CAA trying to get ESPN talking heads to stump for Lane to coach playoffs when he had been told weeks earlier by Keith Carter in no way could he take LSU job and stay on. ESPN basically had to apologize on Gameday the following week.
Making it 100% about him and not the team, players.
Everywhere he leaves the fanbase hates him for how he left, he can't help it. He's a burn all the goodwill type guy on the way out the door.
All he had to do was act like a grown up and tell Keith, "after the Egg Bowl I'm taking the LSU job and completely understand why I can't take the job of a rival and stay on, especially with the portal nowadays"
He's such a weird arse dude. Love what he did for Ole Miss, but without his Dad in the picture, he went back to acting like a baby child

Then why allow Weiss to coach? If you really feel that way, send him and the rest of the coaches back to Baton Rouge.
Come on now you know an assistant is way different than the head coach. Most people don't even know who the coordinators and assistants are.
Its all perception, Ole Miss in no way could let Lane take the job of one of our biggest rivals, yet stay on to coach in the playoffs.
Had he taken an NFL job, yes he could have stayed on. Maybe had he taken Penn State, maybe but probably not stay on. But to leave your program for a conference rival in the midst of a playoff run, but stay on to coach was in no way never going to happen. And LSU or any other SEC school would do the exact same in that situation And he knew it from the start. He just acted like a whiny arse bitch about it. Hell his daughter is on record as saying she thinks her Dad is a kid trapped in an adult body.

When conferences get to 20 I guess they split into two ten team divisions?
Which is pretty much the size of what conferences used to be

Maybe he was confused since 2 of the 3 coaches who left their teams still coached the playoff.
Good lord I feel sorry for you if you think the LSU head coach should have stayed in the Ole Miss building for weeks to coach the playoffs.
Are you not that smart? Apples to oranges when comparing G5 coach staying on.
In no way would LSU let a head coach who took the Alabama job coach in the playoffs for LSU. Ole Miss AD 1000% made the right decision telling Kiffin he couldn't coach.
Kiffin knew weeks earlier when he started flirting with Florida and LSU that he wouldn't be able to coach playoffs if he took another job.
He acted like a child.
Honestly I am fine with Lane leaving...He gave us 6 great years, more than most expected.
Just hate he tried to burn it down on his way out, hate he can't leave a place without turmoil.
I know the college football calendar is f'd and not Lane's fault, but Lane could have handled this better. When he knew he was leaving he should have understood in no way was he coaching us in the playoff.
Wish he would have just said "Ole Miss has been great for me, a great six years, but I have to take the LSU job for me personally and I wish Ole Miss nothing but success in their playoff run". "wish the calendar was better, but I realize I can't have my cake and eat it too"

Which one takes the cake?
Is A&M gonna try to find a new QB in the portal?

Woof
Geez…Lane is such a great guy. Thanks Lane
Who gets the 2 seed?

Big Ten runner up who lost to Big Ten Chamo by 3?
SEC Chamo who lost to Alabama?
I think they give 2 seed to Georgia

I miss CBS production quality. They just do sports big time.
So much better TV product.
But I do like the ABC Tripleheader. Wish CBS could have done rhat

Would LSU allow their coach to coach in the playoffs if he just signed with Alabama? Me thinks no.
If LSU coach sent his family to Tuscaloosa during a bye week their coach probably would have been fired on the spot.

That QB of Auburn has zero touch on the ball, throws a really uncatchable ball .
Throws fastballs when receiver is 5 yards away. QBS like that with no touch kill me how they make it so far.

Like how could anyone even think so. Its ludicrous
