Because he was named the starter while still in high school

I remember last August when several of the Longhorn media folks speculated that Ewers was struggling and may not win the starting job.

Sark that same day put out a press release naming Ewers as the starter.

I am sure promises have been made, and I am sure those promises will be honored.

He should stay at Texas for a year...transfer to a Junior College, then come back to Texas.

The kid should be finishing up his SR year of High school. Id expect him to be 3rd or 4th coming out of winter break of high school. Arch will be a stand out at some point.

Uncle Eli did not start until his RS SOPH season.

Tell the truth....the school you are a fan of doesn't play the sport of football, does it? Good gracious...

The plan all along has been to redshirt him (which the Mannings wanted too).

People from Louisiana tried to tell this board that Manning wasn’t even the best qb in Louisiana last year, but nobody listened.

Manning will be pushed into the QB1 spot before he is ready because that is what the boosters want. Donghorn football is all about giving the big boosters what they want. If not, they will replace the coach before Manning rides the bench for very long. It explains why their program has been in such bad shape since Mack Brown left. Brown and then AD DeLoss Dodds did not let the boosters push them around.

Eli redshirted his freshman year at Ole Miss

Thanks Cutcliffe, Real man of genius there.
Cutcliffe was also the one who had Peyton inked in as 3rd string his freshman year before Colquitt got hurt and Brandon Stewart faltered smh.

Watching him in high school, I thought he would need at least 2 years to develop. He has the arm talent. It would be suicide for Texas to start him before his RS Soph or true Junior season.

???

That was absolutely the correct move. He also didn’t start for the Giants his rookie season either. Sometimes it’s better to NOT throw a kid to the wolves on his first day.

He and his family thought the same, esp coming from lesser HS competition. Sark’s plan and timeline was what they were looking for.

1994 Tennessee Volunteers QB Depth Chart for Season Opener

1. Jerry Colquitt - Sr
2. Todd Helton - Jr
3a. Brandon Stewart - Fr
3b. Peyton Manning - Fr

Manning didn't start until the 5th game of the season...Colquitt was lost for the season in the opener vs UCLA and Helton was hurt in the 4th quarter against Mississippi State. In the first 3 games, Stewart actually took more snaps than Manning.

It has always been the plan for Arch to Red Shirt.

Before Spring Break, Arch was only listed as 2nd on the Depth Chart because Malik Murphy was not active with a boot on his foot.

Malik was cleared to practice Monday.

Thanks for your concern and the updates on Texas spring practices.

The freshman at Tennessee isn’t 3rd string. But then again he is better than Arch.

Honestly, that might say more about the strength of UT's other QB's outside of their starter.

Texas has a 5 star and a 4 star from prior classes ahead of Manning.

Tennessee has a 4-star ahead of Imaleava and a unranked prospect who transferred from UCF behind him.

you're 100% wrong on all of that

Since you're braindead and need a Razorback fan to teach you Rebel football history, you already had Romero Miller at QB during Eli's true freshman year, so it was a great redshirt

Peyton was 3rd behind Colquitt and Todd Helton, who both got hurt quickly. None of is had anything to do with Brandon Stewart.

Stop making shite up

You idiots set Ole Miss back a decade by firing Cutcliff

WBIR Vault: 1994 Peyton Manning vs Branndon Stewart

Stewart was seeing as much time as Manning in the first 3 games, and was really a crowd favorite because of his mobility.

Manning and Stewart rotated possessions in relief of Helton in the 3rd game (Florida), once it was already out of hand. After Helton went down in game 4...Manning was the starter, but Stewart was still rotated in occasionally.
