History says frick no, but I'm not sure how AU sticks out nowadays.

As Saban was saying, the only thing that matters now is how much NIL money the school has. That determines how good the job is.

If NIL and pay are equal, Missouri is the better job, unless Auburn boosters somehow make their way to CoMo.

It's not that it is necessarily a lateral move. It's that the advantage Blue Bloods/Big Six schools had over the rest of the SEC is a lot smaller than it was before NIL/Portal.
Instead of Drinkwitz to Florida or LSU being a fairly clear upgrade, now a guy like Drink has to consider that he is already being paid $9 million per year, he is recruiting at a high level and crushing the Portal, and has a fanbase in Columbia that is happy with him. Does Florida offer enough of advantage over Mizzou in 2025 to justify that significant career risk? Florida or LSU will fire him if he has a couple bad seasons, or if he can't get over the hump and start winning big games. Mizzou will be patient, and he is still able to bring good talent there in this new landscape.

When Mizzou can show it’s capable of winning an SEC title, you might be able to make that type of claim. But there is no difference between Mizzou, South Carolina, Arkansas, etc….
Auburn has won two SEC titles and played for two national championships since 2010. Meanwhile Mizzou has a losing record to Kentucky since joining the league.

Auburn is the better program historically and a bigger brand name. But in terms of job security, salary, and ability to compete in the SEC, they are equals programs for a head coach. Mizzou might actually have a slight edge because Auburn has tougher permanent opponents in conference play.

Step down, mizzu to AU.. Step down in modern era.

It depends who is coaching Mizzou. Nerdy Drink really connects with corporate donors in StL and KC. Cash wise he can go toe to toe with anyone besides the Texas oil money and brands like LSU. So Drink at Mizzou makes Mizzou better, but Drink at Auburn probably doesn't work as well.

I think Missouri is better than auburn in this landscape

Nice cherry picked stat. The only non-Big Six school that Mizzou has a losing record against. Auburn and Mizzou have almost identical conference records since Mizzou joined the conference in 2012.

I highly doubt Drinkwitz will get the Auburn job.

I mean one school has NINE national championships while the other has... none.

Mizzou is a better job than Auburn if NIL is equal. They have an SEC lock on recruiting for the STL region. Auburn has to compete with FL, GA, and ALA for the recruits that they get.

Im told Auburn has 200 nattys. Who can compete with that?

I'd say right now, LSU and Florida are program upgrades, Auburn has the potential to be better, the framework is there, but it is not even lateral at the moment.

Auburn just lost to Kentucky at home so badly it got the coach fired.
The world of college football has completely changed.
There is the pre-portal football era and the post portal football era. The portal began in October 2018 and NIL in September 2019. Here is how Mizzou and Auburn compare in the new era of football.
2020: MU 5-5; AU 6-5, lost citrus bowl
2021: MU 6-7, lost armed forces bowl; AU 6-7 lost Birmingham bowl
2022: MU 6-7, lost Gasparilla bowl; AU 5-7
2023: #8 MU 11-2, won cotton bowl; AU 6-7 lost music city bowl
2024: #22 MU 10-3 won music city bowl, AU 5-7
In the new world Mizzou has the edge over Auburn.

no way tha'ts lateral.....that's a step down.
He'd be crazy to leave what he's got going there in MIzz for that dumpster fire of a program.
