16 team tournament with no automatic bids would have been epic this year:

Thanks for confirming the 5 seed is who you want to be, no matter how they arrange these playoffs

Losing to the number 1 team? I doubt he would get fired for that.

I dont think he would get fired. But after seeing that defense and how Bama has played the past few weeks.. That game wouldnt be close

Would gump fans really be OK with losing by multi scores to Indiana? Even if they are #1?

But isn’t it already NFL lite? It feels like it’s already there. It’s NFL lite except for less quality play.

Quite a few programs have the NFL lite model, but a true NFL lite model would never see a program like Vandy or Indiana breakthrough.

DeBoer isn't the guy. I suspect his seat will be scorching

I think he beats OU. And then I think he gets pantsed by Indiana. Losing to a team with Indiana's prestige (even though they are a legit team this year) is going to put him on the hot seat real fast.
If you took the SEC, top ~2/3 of the B1G, and a couple of programs from the ACC and Big 12 it would cut down the clutter and make it easier to see who is good or not.

The only reason I am against the hypothetical super conference is it would kill everyone elses programs. I dont want NFL lite, I like COLLEGE football. shite some of the most entertaining games to watch this year have been weekday games involving Delaware who was a FCS school before moving up to CUSA

Yet, they definitely need to change the playoff system. If we are going to keep conference champ games, at a minimum the tie breaker for CCG teams needs to be who is highest ranked in the CFP (Miami would have been in from that) instead of whatever weird rules the ACC has. The conferences are too big to leave it up to fate and allow Duke and Virginia as real options...

They should also cut it down to 4 auto bids instead of 5. The ACC and Big 12 are closer to G5 than P4 at this point.

ND needs to schedule a more difficult schedule

They are tethered to their "independent" history because it means they only have to play 2, maybe 3 tough games a year and can schedule the bottom barrel teams the rest of the way. In a conference, they will sometimes have to play more than that. Its hard to maintain 9-11 win seasons when you have more than a couple real tests

The domers being left out of a system they tried to fleece is as good as it gets

It will be our non-opt outs and returning players vs their same.

If we played Michigan during the regular season I think we crush them, but backups vs backups (who will play most of the game) is a total crapshoot. If Michigan has more players forego the draft to make a run next year we may be in trouble, but in reality..who knows?

Opt outs are completely overblown. Guys opted out a decade ago, its not some new phenomena.

Last year Michigan's best players opted out, only one Gump opted out, and they still got their arse kicked :rotflmao:
Texas playing Michigan on New Years Eve is a pretty cool bowl game to me. Two big brands to ring in the new year.

The only reason "bowls mean less" is because some of yall dont actually care about the games. If we go back to the old days even less of yall are possible title contenders.

The games matter, the natty or bust attitude some hold is the only problem with the sport
He won’t win the Heisman

Mendoza is -2000 to -3000 now and pavia is +1000

Pavia failed in the big moments, shouldn’t get a Heisman for racking up stats on USC, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Tulane in the playoffs or is Tulane not in the playoffs? Did Ole Miss play Tulane and did they win?

This is bragging about beating the make a wish participant.

No wonder Lane left your shithole program

You used ranking at kickoff to illustrate Oregons wins and used current rankings for Ole Miss and A&M.

Those are current rankings, what are you talking about?

We’ve played three teams in the playoffs. Went 2-1. LSU fans not knowing shite about football should be the least surprising thing. Bunch of non ball knowers down in swamps

You aren’t seriously counting Tulane as some elite win right?

They got demolished by UTSA.

And like I said, for us watching, it will be glorious

Would laugh my arse off if gumps got left out. But they shouldn’t get left out for Miami.

I’m still appreciating how good the night slate games were yesterday. Two conference champ games going to the wire is a not bad way to wrap up the regular season. The IU / OSU game was phenomenal. Those defenses are insane

They should keep the playoffs at 12. More teams just means even more whiny fanbases. Losing multiple games should mean you aren’t guaranteed to make the playoffs.
You think they are swapping Miami in?
The conference depth argument loses its luster when you talk about teams like A&M, Ole Miss or Vandy. Conference depth is why Alabama should still be in

Oregon played a tougher schedule than Ole Miss or A&M. They played #1, @ #23, #16, and also played @ Washington

I'd say that typically only 5 or 6 teams could win it all on any given year.. Even that might be a stretch.

Id say most years its in the 3 to 6 range. Some years its just one or two, some years maybe as many as 8. I cant think of a season where more than 8 teams had a real shot.

For this season, it looks like there are only 5 teams who have a reasonable shot.

ESPN has it as:

OSU - 26.9%
IU - 26.7%
OR - 12.2%
TTU - 9%
UGA - 8.4%

Everyone else is sub 5% chance

Big 10 with a terrible Penn State. How much of a joke is that conference if that happens?

Indiana would need to keep this level to salvage it. If they fall back into their typical ways, we’re looking at such a terrible league.

If PSU is shite from here on out it doesnt change a ton. The B1G is a conference where half the teams are very bad and the other half are good teams. It causes big schedule imbalance where you get teams like Indiana last year or Michigan this year who have more wins than they should have

At the top, they are recruiting on par with the SEC: They have 8 top 30 classes (5 top 15), SEC has 10 top 30 (6 top 15). The difference is only two teams in the SEC are having shite recruiting classes, while the B1G has six teams with shite classes
