Disagree, this isn’t about culture but about getting fricked about as hard as a player could get fricked in life.

Regardless of your culture, if you went undefeated, won your championship game in what is supposed to be a major conference, beat 2 teams in the most difficult conference and then told you don’t even get a chance because your QB got hurt… even though Alabama won the damn thing just a couple years ago with a backup QB?

Ya, as a player I would be like frick all that bullshite too and not give a frick about the bowl game. I think it’s a testament to their coach that he was even able to get some players on to the field, I sure as frick would not have played.

Surely you aren't really comparing Brock Glenn to Tua? Surely not?

With even a close win vs UGA, the Noles could’ve shown they belonged and claimed a title. Hell, some organizations would probably have given them one. Those players knew they couldn’t compete, so they quit.

So why didn't Auburn quit in 2004? They went undefeated in the toughest and deepest power conference, won the SEC Championship Game, and got left out of the national championship game in favor of USC and Oklahoma. Did any of them rage quit? No. They all showed up and beat Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl.

There it is folks. He's even proud of his attitude. "frick yeah I'm a quitter! Life wasn't fair so I quit!"

Ladies and gentlemen, here is The culture of quitting. Players should want to play. Players should want to finish.

The only thing in life we can control are ourselves and our own actions..which incidentally is how we are measured as individuals. As a former athlete I can’t imagine giving up on my team for”any” reason, it just wouldn’t happen. I’d never be able to look my father, coach, or myself in the face. We live in a prideless society that is more concerned with selfish needs and perception than principles. Tifwiw jmho

I think you only underscore that it’s very much about culture. shite doesn’t always (or even often) go one’s way. The general willingness to say “frick it” and go home with your ball is fairly troubling. FSU actually still had quite a bit to play for. Had they managed to put together a game and beat UGA, I think they had a legitimate platform to make an argument that they deserved the AP, for example, to name them National Champs. Thats not nothing. Instead, they played the victim, screamed, “we got screwed”, then proceeded to quit, only validating the committee’s decision to leave them out. But that’s where we are as a society, so life imitates art, yada, yada…

Don’t understand this mindset at all. 100% beta move. One thing to opt of if you’re going pro. Crappy for fans but I get it.

But not taking every opportunity to ball out against elite competition and raise your draft stock makes zero sense.

Even if you’re pouting about being left out, each player should want to showcase their talent. 100% beta move.

Five responses in and I've found the dumbest, most narrow minded take in the thread.

"Supposed" is right. The ACC is a power five conference in name only and FSU played a glorified group of five schedule. The FSU SOS is somewhere around 55. The Alabama SOS is 6. FSU's best win is LSU. That's Alabama's 3rd best win.

Alabama won "the damn thing" because Tua was better and the starter was pulled. Not because of an injury in a previous game and where in subsequent games the back up proved he wasn't up to it. And you know how we've confirmed FSU's backup quarterback wasn't up to it? He's gone now, that's how we've confirmed it.

"frick all that" is not a champions mentality and it's for this very reason Georgia beat this tantrum throwing team, coach and fanbase by 60 points. Now Georgia would've beaten FSU by two touchdowns, even if they had a full roster but a 60 point victory, even with a depleted roster signals quit from the get go.

No, it's obvious you wouldn't have played.

Culture and character are what you do when adversity hits. If they stayed together and beat the 2 time champs they would have received 1st place votes in the AP and Coaches polls and a lot of support as a championship team. Instead, when things didn't go their way they quit.

When did Alabama win with a backup QB?

In 2017, Jalen Hurts was benched at half time for true freshman Tua. However, there were calls for Tua to start all season.

In 2020, they won with starter Mac Jones.
