We lost 8 or 9 guys on D. I think the staff had to decide keep the young guys that may not have been making as much or the older ones that had the bad contracts.

Ended up the youngsters weren’t ready when going against prolific o’s like lsu and ole Miss - those are two great QB’s.

None of those coaches coach in the SEC where everyone has a budget. I'm not happy about getting blown out but we're not a very talented team so it's going to happen.

My goal before the season was finish above.500 and build a foundation for a more successful 27. We have 3 very winnable games left against teams we match up pretty well against so 7-5 and a bowl game against lower level competition is still on the table.

I agree with you. Put the UCLA team in AU uniforms and have their coaches play our schedule. I don’t believe they would get their asses handed to them like this staff and players did. Would the win ? Maybe not. I don’t believe they think we would be competitive in every game. Also UCLA is spending less than we are. I believe chesney was hired after Golesh. Also Ky is an example of a decent team

Gave up 45 with Atkins to a terrible UF team. The scheme is awful. Durkin has to go asap.

No doubt Chesney’s UCLA is better than we are but everyone takes a different approach to a quick rebuild and just because Chesney did well compared to Golesh it won’t tell the whole tale. At the end of the day I just want Golesh to turn us around. Bruce Pearl’s year 1 and 2 plan failed miserably

What's the story on Lee and Crawford? Did they demand too much or did Golesh just not think they were good enough?

If I recall, they wanted a raise and AG said no. I think DJ felt the young guys would step up and they werent needed.

Yeah, both wanted raises. Rumor was Crawford wanted 1 mil. Given both had worse seasons in 25 compared to 24, it made some sense. Obviously our inability to get decent replacements as well as Lee bouncing back this year makes it a poor choice in retrospect.

Though as bad as Durkin has been this year I'm not sure how much it would matter.

Bob Chesney instantly flipped the script at UCLA, Cignetti instantly flipped the script at freaking Indiana, Eric Morris flipped the script instantly at Oklahoma State, and Auburn is the same pile of crap it has been for years. Frustrating is a severe understatement, you can clearly see what can be done in the portal era, somehow Auburn can’t figure it out.

First, I'm pretty disappointed with Auburn football this year. No getting around it, with the exception of the trip to Athens, the product on the field has been POOR. Yeah, we've been our cupcakes handily, but outside of Jawja and cupcakes, we have not looked good. Some of that is talent, and some of it is game planning and bizarre in-game decisions.

However, there is a vast gap between it CAN be done in Year One and it should be EXPECTED in Year One. I believe that Golesh thought the best answer (that is, band-aid) for Year One was bringing in players that he knew. Well, it's becoming clear that those players were at UCF and not a Power 4 school for a reason.

It's been a frustrating season to be sure, and if it does not improve a lot starting next year, I'm not sure how much longer I can justify staying in this...if it feels like drudgery and punishment, why are any fans staying?

Very sad to see a formerly elite SEC program dwelling in the basement.

our apparent lack of improvement this far

That is disappointing. I thought we’d at least improve in some core areas. The receivers have been good and improved. But the OL is just a shite show. I think we’ve had a different line up every week. And the one constant, Best, of the worst lineman of them all. Seeems like every game he had 1-3 critical penalties at critical times.

Cignetti took a bunch of JMU kids just like Golesh took USF kids. On paper, CAG had the better group. They did the same thing. Except Cignetti had essentially unlimited $ for gap fills.

The difference? Cignetti faced an SOS of 60th last year while his players gelled and got better, CAG faced the #7 SOS this year.

My understanding is that UK boosters have outspent us as well this year.

Indiana played 11 teams that finished the season unranked in 2024. They played 2, 2 whole teams that finished the season ranked in Ohio State and ND. And they lost both of those games.

UCLA currently has 1, 1 game scheduled vs a team that is currently ranked in the top 25, and that's USC at 18 and they have yet to play.

Auburn has played or is scheduled to play 6 teams that are currently ranked in the top 25. FL might fall off that list but we're still talking 5 damn good teams.

You want an Indiana or UCLA level turnaround?! Then you better figure out how to sign Auburn up for those kind of schedules.

Like holy shite people we knew this was going to be a brutal season. Even if we were a top 15 team this was going to be a ROUGH season just based on the schedule. There's plenty of valid complaints about Golesh or Brown or the OL or the Durkin etc. But you're all a bunch of grown arse men who need to grow up and look at reality. Getting 6 or 7 wins out of this schedule, with this roster, will be a hell of a turnaround after 5 consecutive losing seasons.

Yes I know beating the #1 ranked team at their home was exciting. But Indiana didn't do that their first year. UCLA won't get even get the chance. And I know it's easy to run away with newfound hopes and conclusions from that like frick I want to be excited for Auburn football. But it was never going to suddenly be a 10+ win season this year, and if it somehow was it would have required one of the most historic runs vs ranked teams in all of CFB. EVER.

What about Kentucky? Last I checked they play an SEC schedule. It’s more about how bad the losses are and how bad we looked than just the loss itself, at least be competitive with teams that are very beatable. We rushed for 67 yards against a terrible run defense and a chunk of that yardage was on the Tia scramble.

The point about schedule is still applicable.
So far, about the softest SEC schedule you could play.

UK Games could have gone either way vs USC and LSU.
Nonetheless, good wins and they are doing better than Auburn.

The USF guys haven't worked out. You can't sweep the UGA win under the rug.

If we finish 7-5 that will be progress. If not, backs will be more against the wall next season.

They've played 3 currently ranked teams so far, and got blown out by Alabama, and won vs USC and LSU by a combined 2 points in OT. Which is semi comparable to our UGA win.

They still have to play Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri all of whom are ranked as of me looking at schedules. If UK beats all 3 of them, yeah there's some room for saying damn UK managed the turnaround. But they're also specifically the team that outbid us on 1 or 2 OL players that could have made a difference which hurts.

Well maybe Golesh learnt his lesson this year how important the OLine is. DJ should have know where we were at CB this year.
