Gordon might be my favorite England player, just a dynamic goofy arse Brit hauling arse down the field.
In current sports like the NFL and NBA doing poorly gives you the benefit of better draft picks. With no threat of losing your place in the league there is a benefit to tanking once it is clear the season is over.
With promotion/relegation the hungry teams/owners advance up the pyramid towards the top, while the complacent ones get bounced down. There's a tremendous incentive to both reinvest the money made by the team, tv deals, merch, player sales etc into improving the team both by adding big name players to the roster (often from other leagues) and by developing your youth players to either become new faces of the team, or sold to other leagues to help fund the team's ambition.
So it creates a farm system that is sharpened over time, and relegation is such a threat (loss of tv revenue etc) that teams have an incentive to be competitive.

Right?! I still look back at those, playing 1 game Friday night, 2 Saturday games, and then a final on Sunday very fondly. I have no idea how I ever played that many minutes in midfield/winger those weekends, but I guess everyone else was arse dragging by the Saturday evening match too.
Or I was just a kid with infinite energy, oh the days.

I screamed so loudly at this it spooked my wife, who hasn't heard me react to the only other sport I watch consistently (Auburn football) in years.
I've just kind of accepted that Auburn is on the struggle bus, and I never played football so the ease or not of a play isn't something I can always judge. But I played 9 years of soccer and holy frick Freese.

The gap in ability between our team and Belgium is not that large. The mental gap last night though was...woof. We just locked up, played extremely tight (hard direct passes, difficulty settling the ball) and very hesitant on defense. Guys let the stage and the opportunity go to their heads and they cracked pretty badly.
In Distress or Under Duress.
How do you relocate a bird with wings capable of flying from Canada to the Gulf? The shite birds will just fly back lol.
Top club teams would kill most national teams except the absolute best 3 maybe? And even then most top club teams are formed of the best players money can buy in a given position and they play together for much longer then players get to train and play together on a national team.
God damn I opened this worried he had been arrested or in a car wreck or some shite. Just one or two context clues in the titles please
Shhh shhhh shhh shhh. Alabama is DEFINITELY the worst of the three. Super inhospitable to outsiders too. I would DEFINITELY never move here.
Right?! Holy shite it took a civilian blind siding the guy to give the 2 cops a chance. Craziness.

Varies by state, but between 60 to 90% of cats in the US are indoor only.
Compare that to Europe, where only 15 to 35% of cats are indoor only (varies by country).
So yeah maybe PETA can take that up with the people across the pond.

I think the easy argument here is expanded NBA/CFB playoffs etc cheapen the regular season.
But WC is so different from the "regular season" of soccer (your various leagues etc) that it is a unique and special thing. Players playing for their nation with players they normally would not (or even play against most weekends) is super unique and different.

That's a fine argument for potentially even more soccer. It sounded like you were just complaining about a longer group play time period which seemed silly.
WC play is so different from other sports that I'm all for whatever pulls in more teams and more games.

The men agreed to take less pay for the national team to make the men and women's "pay" equal.
