Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko addressed questions about his quarterback situation on Monday, explaining why backup Brady Hart has yet to receive a bigger opportunity despite the struggles of starter Marcel Reed.

The Aggies are 4-4 this season after reaching the College Football Playoff last year. Reed has struggled with consistency, throwing eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Reed threw two interceptions in Texas A&M's 31-20 loss to Alabama on October 24, prompting Elko to consider making a quarterback change during the game.

However, Elko indicated Monday that Hart still has work to do before earning more playing time.

"We feel like Brady gets a ton of opportunities to showcase where he's at, a ton of opportunities to show us whether or not he's ready to go or step in and be the guy," Elko said.

"The challenge to him has been if you want opportunities, there is a level we need to see to be able to do that."

Hart has appeared sparingly this season, completing 12 of 21 passes for 143 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

For now, Reed remains the starter as Texas A&M prepares to face South Carolina on the road Saturday, November 7.
