Their twitter presence is nothing short of obnoxious, and I don't even follow recruiting that closely. It's unprofessional and embarrassing, especially when they signed the worst class in Arkansas history. I realize it was a small class but it's still a fact. This is the worst class we've ever had. Yet we have coaches making asses of themselves on Twitter saying "Just got off the phone with a BALLER" ten times a day. They better win or we're going to look even dumber than we do now.

I don't disagree but I do think this is the bullshite world we are living in. These recruits live their lives more worried about their online presence than their on-field presence. Annoying as it may be, gotta play the game.

Blame the millennials.

Blame the baby boomer parents.

It's a instant gratification society now.

The increased social media presence is something they did at Clemson while Morris was there to turn around the program's recruiting.

It's obnoxious to me, yes. But I'm not an 18 year old kid with a big ego.

I don’t really think it’s obnoxious or dumb. They’re doing what they think they need to do to succeed.

And it’s not like it’s the actual coaches tweeting. I’m sure Morris has hired assistants that do it all.

ding ding ding

he's not recruiting us.
quote:

“I’m 49 years old and unfortunately 49-year-old people don’t play at the University of Arkansas,” Morris said. “It’s about 18-year-olds.

“So maybe if I had an 18-year-old and ask what he thinks about anthracite, and this guy can run a hole in the wind and he likes anthracite and he can catch everything thrown at him and tackle everything that comes around, I like anthracite, too. If he doesn’t like anthracite, I don’t like anthracite.”

It disgusts me but you're right. I'm sure I'll like Morris but between this and the picture pages he's gonna have on the sideline for plays I'm going to be choking back a lot. Let's just say our damn offensive production better be worth it.

That's what I'm hung up on. Growing up it felt like I supported a legitimate program even if we didn't win much. Now it feels like pee wee football.

you aren't the demographic it's focused on. you'd think with that fancy business school everyone would understand the basics of marketing and sales

Well growing up, you had a buffer between you and what actually went on with the program (the Arkansas media) that could spin things.

With social media, you now get to actually see what it looks like when 50 year old men try to convince high school kids to play for them. It's hokey, it's silly, and it's what has to be done. This same stuff was being said to kids in private, now it's just out there for everyone to see.

This crap where we cater to every 18 year olds desires is totally wrong. Plenty of schools have football success without whoring themselves out

This university doesn't exist to serve these kids. We should want kids who want to be a part of the university. They want to be a part of the team. They want to be Razorbacks.

We aren't a collection of free agents that we cobble together by pulling stupid stunts. This isn't an Xbox game, where you promise stupid shite to each player.

Do Bama, Florida, Georgia, etc., not use social media?

No 18 year old that was born outside of the state has ever seen Arkansas do anything to make them think "boy, I would really like to be a Razorback". And we sure ain't building a team of just Arkansas players.

The coaches have to act like the players their recruiting. They like to be called ballers and game changers

You fully realize why the ranking is what it is, despite the actual average, yet you’re still trying to say it is the worst class ever. I get the average fan not understanding how to interpret recruiting rankings but not you. That doesn’t make any sense at all.

It appears dumb to us old folks, but it is THE chosen communication medium for the 25 and under crowd. They're obsessed with followers, likes, etc.

If it works, keep it up. If not, adjust and can the idea.

I would argue that university does in fact exist to serve these kids and all the kids that would get an education there...
