Yep.... the BOT flirting with Gus is what put Morris in a tough spot.

Not entirely though, Auburn now owes him a ton and they hate him lol

It would have been better for us to hire Morris earlier and then have Auburn fire Gus after being dominated by UCF.

We then could have hired Gus as special teams coordinator or maybe had him be a janitor with Houston Nutt.

I'm sure there are tons of SEC caliber players out there that would've accepted a blue shirt. That would've helped and definitely not screwed us over next year

Signing less than 20 players didn't hurt the above in the team rankings...

Well yeah it did... The algorithm works the same for them as it does for us. Those teams just had more talented players, mainly because there wasn't staff turnover with crazy scheme change. In the case of Florida, Mullen inherited a good class in fertile recruiting ground and just did a fantastic job closing.

So really what you mean for the basis of your argument is that Chad didn't have enough time to get in on the type of talent he would be able to pull at Arkansas as he wasn't recruiting this type talent while at SMU. This makes sense with the best player all being on the defensive side of the ball being recruiting by members of the staff coming from power 5 jobs where they were recruiting this type talent.

So what there is to be learned from this is Chad didn't waste time and resources chasing talent out of his league, which isn't a bad thing at all in the grand scheme of things.

It isn't his fault he didn't have time, the ESD played a role, normally he would have had a little over a month to make up ground on these types of players. It isn't Bert's or Jeff Long's fault he didn't have time either, the people responsible for his lack of time are still in the same roles as they were when the clock was ticking back then...

Fair enough. I think blame can be spread around a bit more but yeah mostly its on the BOT

JSJ was willing blue shirt candidate so there is your additional signing for the class we are up to 18 total now.

And even moreso, why are you blaming Morris for that?

I'm not, this would be the worst class regardless of who the coach is.

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t. You can’t say that for sure when he had a scholarship offer from Tech and was being recruited hard by them. And that’s not a risk a brand new staff can take.

But they can take the risk of more highly regarded legacies going to aggy next year?

Its OK because its aggy, Chad?

The point is there are plenty of ways they could have signed more players to this class had they wanted to do so, they chose not to do so, hopefully because they think they can get better players in next year's class.

Obviously they can. Getting a full year to recruit players and a season to show off what they could be a part of is obviously preferable to getting numbers for the sake of numbers with everyone else's leftovers. Even though stonehog wanted that apparently because muh team rankings.

It isn't so obvious, Chad will have to do what Petrino and Bert couldn't, recruit a class more highly regarded after their first class signed at Arkansas*.

He set the bar really low for himself, so that was smart.

*Recruiting sites didn't exist in Nutt's first few seasons.

Yet we have coaches making asses of themselves on Twitter saying "Just got off the phone with a BALLER" ten times a day.

I don’t think thiat they’re making asses of themselves, but it does make me cringe when I see the BALLER stuff. We start landing top 15 classes, and I won’t give a shite what they say or do in public.

Do I think some of the Twitter stuff is ridiculous? Yes. Do I care? No. Why? Because for the first time in my 10+ years of following recruiting, the national recruiting guys are coming to our boards and giving updates like they do for the traditional recruiting powerhouse. That alone tells me that it’s working.

Highly recruited athlete Raymond Woodie III spoke highly of Arkansas' coaching staff and recruiting graphics on Recruiting Thursday.
Woodie, 6-1,185 of Tallahassee, Florida received a scholarship offer from the Hogs on Jan. 21 to go along with others from Ole Miss, Florida State, Florida, Southern Cal, California, Louisville, Michigan State and others. His father is the linebackers coach at Florida State.
ESPN rates Woodie the No. 11 athlete and No. 169 overall prospect nationally in the 2019 class. He's being recruited by cornerbacks coach Mark Smith.
