HY looked like he had 10,000 lbs lifted off his shoulders yesterday.
I’m really starting to like him and think he’ll bring in somebody who can turn things around.

Lunney getting emotional was pretty awesome. You know this means so much to him.

I'm honestly kind of surprised people point to Kentucky as the game this year that cemented their opinions on Morris and what he could do here. It was SJSU for me. Never expected them to beat Kentucky or anyone else in conference after that.

Well his point was that the 2nd half of the Kentucky game was when he stopped seeing the players compete which is true. Not noting any moral victories but we competed in the A&M game as well as the first half of Kentucky.

This season wasn't about wins.... It was about competitiveness with the AD and BOT.
When we continually looked lost and void of using talent correctly, it was over.
The turning point was definitely that loss for me. and it continued the toilet flush spiral thereafter.

The SJSU game made me feel like we needed to move on after this season. The Kentucky game made me feel like we needed to get him away from the program ASAP.

I wanted him gone at half-time of that game. Before that moment I was still on board because of his recruiting and thinking he needed more time.
That game exposed him. Even if you believed like me, that we still weren't SEC ready, we have way more talent than San Jose St.
Half-time is when I knew he was a fraud.

I thought I'd see more improvement last year even if it didn't show up on the win column. After we barely beat Portland State I knew we had not improved since last year. Our "hammer down, high-flying offense" put up 20 points against an FCS school.
The worst part is this was a down year for a lot of other teams: OM, State, A&M, Mizzou.

Yeah it was totally Kentucky for me. Not sure I can explain why, except that maybe I convinced myself SJSU was a fluke. Going into Kentucky, coming off a bye and a solid outing against A&M... the game seemed perfectly set up for us to take a significant step up, get our first SEC win, start establishing a new identity. I was done with Morris when that didn't happen.
To this day, I still say this team was/is fully capable of beating UK and should have won that game. The talent is there. I won't be shocked if Lunney gets this thing turned around and we beat Mizzou.

The talent is and has been there to make a bowl the past three seasons.
Bert quit, flat out gave games away after Long was fired and writing was on the wall for him.
Had Chad used what was available in a a way they could perform on the field we would be at worst sitting at 6-7 wins right now (4 OOC, take your pick of OM/UK/aTm/Ms State).
It probably would have been a little different for him if were left lane hammer down during the losses instead of having no identity, desire, or effort shown on the field.

"The buyout situation throughout college athletics I don't think is great," Yurachek said. "There's huge buyouts in all these contracts. And I did say I thought that — and I said it in my opening press conference — losing football games should be condition for terms of your employment to be nullified. And that's tough to be a pioneer in that because that hurts your candidate pool moving forward. It has to be an industry-wide change. It can't be one where Arkansas takes the lead on that, per se, or it's going to hurt our candidate pool. I don't see any significant changes in how we do our contracts and we will pay what we need to pay to get the best person to take this position."
Well that was bullshite

I was just now able to watch the full presser (thanks for the notes Rev), and I think we'll probably see a much more energized team in Baton Rouge and LR. I'm willing to bet we'll be scratching our heads saying "where has THIS team been all year?"
I like Lunney and his part of the presser was great. He was very well spoken and on point, and was totally honest with his answers. Probably pretty easy to do when your position group has been the sole bright spot on the team, but I was impressed nonetheless.
What happens if we're competitive (a big deal to HY) against LSU and somehow beat Mizzou? I think HY is aiming 10000x higher than Lunney, but that would certainly get his attention and probably put Lunney at #3-4 on our list. I don't think I'd be mad at that either.

Lunney performs well, he will have HY pressuring the new HC to keep him on staff.
The biggest thing from the pressers that has been lost in all of this to me was Chad talking about taking the week off and sending the assistants out to recruit all week with light walk throughs later in the week.
Lunney was talking about preparing for games.
Sure recruiting takes a back stage to the remaining games given the situation, but winning the games on the schedule should be more important than winning the recruiting rankings.

quote:Yep. There's a reason that's the game Chad lost me. A year and a half and you can't beat a WR at QB. Bye.
yeah the wheels came completely off there. we should have been able to best them atleast we all agree were that good

I think anyone with half a brain knew that HY's comment about losing being a 'for cause' rationale for evading a buyout was empty bullshite for the the exact reasons he laid out above. That was nothing but red meat for the fan base to draw a delineation between himself and Long regarding the importance of winning.
Two things would happen if you fire a coach and try to skip out on the check simply because he didn't win enough games. 1) You're going to be quickly dragged into litigation and publicly embarrassed accordingly and 2) you're going to watch your candidate pool dry up to the point where you're begging slump busters like Skip Holtz to give you a chance.
And that's not a dig at Yurachek. Just calling his initial comment on buyouts for what it was.
