I remember games against opponents like this coming down to the wire and being 50/50 at the end with Pelphrey.

He's probably the only coach who has an offensive playbook and a defensive playbook to be ran. He is one of the few who can legitimately coach every position on the field. His micromanaging has held him back.
He is the floor.
The issue is Dabo and Franklin don't move the needle of excitement as the ceiling. How do you know this? Because you have to sell people on each one just as much as the P4 names thrown around.
Dabo is a rah rah guy who will need a huge budget for the staff with no previous ties to the state or university. He is currently in a Pittman situation where the buyout is ensuring his employment.
Franklin is fresh in the memory of having a top 5 team losing to a 0fer UCLA team with an interim HC and being fired before the halfway point of the season due to underperforming.
These are not exciting names. If either one had some sort of previous ties and were not unemployed or soon to be unemployed it may move the needle. Basically if it was 2015 not 2025.
Even Bert was coming after being on top at Wisconsin.

Will he tho?
He come with a high price tag to be a CEO style coach who's decline has just as much to do with loss of assistant coaches as it does with refusal to play the portal and nil game.

Kentucky fans said he wouldn't adapt. Cal had been talking about the need to have an older roster for several years.
Dabo says if you don't like the job he's doing fire him and pay him his money.
This isn't the same and totally different mindsets.

Should of just kept Sam at that point. Their outlook on NIL and making sure everyone on the roster gets their piece of the pie has lead to middling results everywhere it has been implemented.

He hasn't waited around.
He had Chaggy's son last year who is going well at UVA this year after being a bust in the making at TCU under Kendall.
He replaced Morris with a guy who was a backup QB in HS true freshman who is now one of the top QBs production wise in college.
He's basically a younger version of Petrino in QB development.
Or you can argue it's the offensive system and the QB doesn't matter as much like Briles had at Baylor or Jones at Hawaii and SMU.
Either way his teams have produced offensively consistently with lesser talent on paper. So if the group listed he stands out the most.
He's OSUs #1 target as he's likely the next Gundy.

Morris would have the best chance due to his proven track record of QB development.

Crazy most if not all of that stuff was on display in the BAC and coach's office under Nutt.

Take Franklin off the list then.
There is still a chance the pig trail nation will report Tuberville has been hired for the 6th different coaching search.

Bert was different due to his record with hiring assistants who were moving up the ladder to be competent coordinators and head coaches and his troll energy and sound bites were amusing till they weren't.
He was also able to over come the two hurdles in the B1G to win the damn thing several years at Wisconsin.

Yeah you gotta get over all the reasons Penn State paid 50 million for him to not coach for them anymore.
Really when you think about, if you ignore all that he's a perfect replacement for Pittman.
I also hear Brian Kelly is available, he's coached for a NC before.

Franklin is the most unexciting name on the list, probably because Pittman's greatest win was over his team. Maybe because he is mid level over all. Or it could be his personality.
I could be sold on UNT Morris, Golesch, or Dillingham to have more optimism and excitement about the future.
With Franklin it's "Yay were hoping for 8-4 as long as there isn't too many ranked team on the schedule." Then I remember we are Arkansas where every SEC game the league gives us is against a ranked opponent, so you gotta hope they are outside the top 15 if you want to to have a bowl game to go and get embarrassed at.
It's like his name is James Pittman and he thinks he knows what to do.

The majority of the fanbase would want a coach who is offensive minded and they see as being a big brain.
Doesn't matter if their offense is simple (Gus) as long as they can talk the talk they will be viewed as a big brain. Ultimately this was the largest reason for Nutt's downfall, the man sounds dumb when he talks.

I don't think people were as pissed about not getting Kiffin as they were about getting Pittman instead for a small amount of money difference.
Saban didn't win until later, but he also didn't fail before winning a NC.
Kiffin, Riley, and Sark all failed at SC.

Also Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes at TTU. He is creditws with Chandler Morris doing well at UVA.
He's towards the top for the okie state job.
Instead of going after him and hiring, they will chase after white whales with LSU and Florida into mid December and end up with someone worse than him who they could hire in a few weeks.

The most unsurprising report from UNC was how Bill thought college would be less work than in the NFL.

It goes back longer than that.
Fire Holtz to hire Hatfield over Jimmie.
Run Hatfield off to pull his OC Crowe off the plane.
Fire Crowe to bring in Danny Ford as a consultant. Ford is given the HC job, first action fire Houston Nutt.
Fire Ford to hire Houston Nutt over Tuberville.
Refuse to fire or run off Nutt for actions and record that led to the previous three being shown the door.
Have Jim Grobe accept the job, then change his mind, hire Petrino.
Fire Petrino and spend almost year to hire, Bert.
Fire Bert, chase after Franklin and Gus only to hire Chaggy.
Fire Chaggy chase after Franklin and Gus to hire Pittman.
Fire Pittman to chase after Franklin and....
