I think it relieves a lot of tension in the program too. This is best for everybody.

This is why this new rule sucks . Gonna see this at other places too I would imagine. But can you imagine being a teammate and a player saying “ I am not going in games to keep my redshirt” if the team needs them to be successful? Seems like it would create a lot of animosity and open a can of worms too. He should just leave the program if true IMO

Still have 3 more games to play Hurts, save him for the postseason. Give the other teams something else they have to prepare for.

Would love to see Hurts and Tua on the field at the same time.

I can see it both ways, but Jalen has given a lot to the program. So, if he wants to redshirt and transfer out then so be it. I am curious if there was any conversation about limitations on the transfer.

I can too and honestly like and appreciate Jalen. Actually feel bad for him too. Just can’t imagine how other position players feel about that attitude. What if 3rd team linebackers start refusing to go in games ? Could get dicey

Well I could see it creating a problem at other schools but not under Saban. It would be different if Jalen made the team better but right now he doesn’t. I think it’s great Mac gets to develop more, to me that’s more important than playing Jalen to keep him happy.

I honestly don't see a single scenario where Jalen's "skill set" would be better out there than Tua's. It's not like Tua can't run RPO's better than Jalen. Play Tua, let Mac be the backup, use Jalen in 3 more games if you want.

This, multiplied by 1,000. There’s no play call that I feel Jalen would be better at than Tua. Every D knows what Jalen is, and they know what’s coming.

Save Hurts for the Iron Bowl and playoff games? Did you watch the Iron Bowl & playoff games last year? He had 21 yards. What do you think he’s going to do this time around? We put Hurts in those kind of games the D will be celebrating a break from Tua.

I think it's the opposite. Jalen has said, I'll be here if you need me. But, I'd like to preserve a year of eligibility if I'm not needed.

How is that selfish? Otherwise he'd just be gone, and we'd be down to two QB's.

Jalen is a better open field runner because he's faster, but that's really the only thing I can think of he can do better than Tua, and that isn't enough to waste a year of eligibility for him or to deny Mac an opportunity at running the full offense when we are up big.

I'm very grateful for Jalen's efforts over the last 2 seasons. However, the way Jalen played in the 3 of last 4 games doesn't give a ringing endorsement for why he should play in any 3 games down the road.

Kirk McNair alluded to this too yesterday in a radio interview I heard.

I am just saying like if Tua sprains an ankle and need to miss 2-3 games. Do you think he will be “all in” if it gets close to burning a redshirt knowing Tua will take over when healthy? And most of my point was not directed at Jalen but others players on the team, both offense and defensive and what is their reaction to this? Others have said when Jalen mentioned “ gotta do what’s best for me “ that it didn’t go well in team meeting. IDK. I am fine either way just hope Tua stays upright

Why? He isn't interested in a position change and even if he was he isn't better than Jeudy, Smitty, Ruggs, Waddle, Harris x 2, Jacobs, or BRob. You can't really even run gadget plays with him or use him as a decoy either, because literally no DC in the country is afraid of Jalen throwing a deep ball.

Other positions aren't really like QB. It's never going to be as clear to the player or coaches that one LB (for example) is going to be a backup as long as he stays on the team. I just don't see a lot of issues with this. In fact, I think there are more pros to the new rule. Now we can play young guys if we have to, but still preserve a year of eligibility. I like the rule and I really think QB's will be the only ones were a situation like this comes up.

That's how I feel too. And, now that he's obviously transferring, I think Mac will get all of the backup time. But, I wouldn't be surprised if they trot Jalen out for a farewell at some point at the end of the year. That's assuming he stays committed and doesn't piss anybody off.

Definitely makes taking a QB or two every year a priority . Yea I understand their window of opportunity isn’t as great. May be who Saban was alluding to and the 15 plays and not enough “plays on tape” ?

Last week Suttles said that he expected Jalen was going to start the Louisville game.

But, if this is true, I think it is probably best for all parties. Get the focus off of this situation and let Mac start getting some decent reps.

I'm ready to see how he does with real reps in a game. I think he's going to be pretty damn solid.

On any kind of pass play and hand-offs to the RBs, Tua every time...on QB runs, gimme Hurts. Jalen appears more durable than Tua and he's electric when he gets in the open field so I'd much rather see Hurts on designed QB runs. Tua needs to learn how to slide...every time he took off, I held my breath. And when he stayed down for a while after the first TD pass, I had flashbacks to Deondre Francois last year...

While I know Tua's gonna have to run the ball some to keep the defense honest, it'll probably scare the hell outta me every time he does...
