I would argue that Wallace Wade probably makes the top 10 over Shug and Dye.

Wade never coached in the SEC; Bama played in the Southern Conference while he was coach. He left in 1930 and the SEC was founded in ‘33…

Last two games, we can't seem to get off the blocks. We played Auburn even for the last 38-and-a-half minutes of the game and we lost by 9. We played Mizzou even for the last 37 and a half minutes of the game, and we lost by 12. We can't afford to start games in a 9-0 or 12-0 hole in the opening couple of minutes against good/great teams and still expect to win...

re: Saban forcing Hurts out??

Can New England not claim Tom Brady since he finished his career at Tampa Bay?

Hurts started at both schools, he won awards at both schools, he won conference championships at both schools, and made the play-offs at both schools…in addition to getting degrees at both schools…both schools can claim him…

Went 10-3 last year

But their QB (Kyle McCord) left for the NFL....
quote:

Milroe was not a great QB for Alabama but he clearly had good games.

Yep

quote:

but I don’t think his starts (and wins) vs. LSU is a favorable data point when looking at his ability to play quarterback.

He was 15-23 for 219 yds against LSU in ‘23 (Heisman winner Daniels was 15-24 for 219, 2 TDs, 1 INT in comparison); he had 20-155 yds rushing and 4 TDs (Daniels had 11-163 yds and 1 TD). Milroe had very similar stats going head to head against the Heisman winner, had zero turnovers, and we won by two TDs; that sounds like a pretty good data point to me…
quote:

I guess that you missed the South Carolina game where he tried to hand the game to them on a silver platter with his boneheaded decision making.

Nope, didn't miss that one but I tend to be more forgiving if we win the game. That being said, he wasn't good that game but he was nowhere near as bad there as he was in the three I mentioned. And I also don't recall him being on the field during the bungled onside kick at the end that almost cost us the game...

quote:

Hell, the game with Missouri was close until right before halftime because of our offense.

He threw for over 200+ yards and ran for 50+ and a TD...and he had no turnovers that game...not to mention, we won 34-0...WTH is there to complain about in that one?

Did you miss the game against UGA? Or the game against LSU? Or Wisconsin? When I watched him play, albeit frustrating at times, I saw both good and bad...and taking his Bama career as a whole, I'll remember the highs more than the lows...
quote:

I think that he tanked the last three games of the season. NIL was his only objective. He was so objectively bad even in the Auburn game.

That’s bullshite. He was bad against Tennessee, absolutely terrible against Oklahoma (the attempted tackle was an embarrassment), and bad against Michigan…but you think 18-24 for 250+ yds passing w/ 1 INT and 17 - 104 yds rushing w/ 3 TDs against Auburn is tanking and objectively bad?

Milroe has moved on now. How long are we gonna keep trashing a guy that has an SEC championship, a playoff appearance, a 6-0 record against UGA, LSU, & Auburn, and kept UGA from a likely three-peat?
quote:

Why didn’t Nick put somebody fast out there when he was kicking a 58 yard FG?

Actually, one of our starting safeties, Vinnie Sunseri, was a placeholder on several kicks that year… he had an end-of-season injury against Arkansas…not sure if he would’ve even been used in that situation had he been healthy but he’d’ve had a better chance to make a tackle than our punter…

Hate to burst your bubble, but that’s clearly and transparently false; CBS, USA Today, Bill Connelly (SP+), ESPN (FPI), Brad Powers (Vegas Power Ratings), Sports-Reference.com (Simple Rating System metric), and Sagarin’s ranking system all had 2020 Bama rated above 2019 LSU…

LMFAO go smoke more crack

Don’t have to smoke crack; unlike you apparently, I can read and I don’t cherry-pick what I read…they’re at least as many pundits/publications that rate 2020 Bama over 2019 LSU as not. Maybe you think they all smoke crack too, eh?

Nobody respects 2020

Hate to burst your bubble, but that’s clearly and transparently false; CBS, USA Today, Bill Connelly (SP+), ESPN (FPI), Brad Powers (Vegas Power Ratings), Sports-Reference.com (Simple Rating System metric), and Sagarin’s ranking system all had 2020 Bama rated above 2019 LSU…

That’s an awful lot of nobodies. Perhaps you meant nobody from LSU respects 2020?
quote:

…but they didn't play as many top teams and you really need a top quality SoS to qualify. The top3 have that well over 71 Nebraska…

Maybe so…but they’re the only team in history that beat the #2, #3, and #4 teams in the final AP & Coaches Poll. They also won two #1 vs #2 matchups in the final three games of the season…
2020 Bama
=========
- 13-0 against an all Power 5 schedule
- 11-0 against SEC teams (only time in history)
- 3-0 against teams that finished in the top 5 of both major polls
- Highest SP+ Power rating of any college team in history
- Highest FPI rating of any college team in the 20 years it’s been in existence
- Never trailed in the 4th quarter all season
- Did not trail at any point during the final 37 quarters of the 2020 season (longest streak since 1947)
- Won every game but one by 15+ points
- First team to score 40 points against a major conference opponent 11 times since 1969
- First team with 5 consensus All-Americans on offense since 1965; 4 of those were unanimous
- 1 unanimous All-American on defense
- 5 All-SEC 1st team players on offense, 3 on defense
- 3 of top 5 players in Heisman voting (first since 1946)
- Best 3rd down conversion rate on record since 2000
- Most points for a kicker without missing a FG or PAT since 1937
- Najee Harris & Devonta Smith became the first teammates in FBS history to each score 25 touchdowns in a season
- Defense finished seventh in the nation in Defensive Efficiency Rankings
- Player Awards: Heisman, Maxwell, Walter Camp, Biletnikoff, Hornung, AP POY, SEC Offensive & Defensive POY, Davey O’Brien, Johnny Unitas, Doak Walker, Outland, Rimington, Joe Moore, Jacobs Blocking Trophy, Rubio Long Snapping, & SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
- Coach Awards: Broyles, Paul (Bear) Bryant, SEC Coach of the Year

…but personally, ‘95 Nebraska and ‘71 Nebraska were probably the best two teams I’ve seen…
quote:

I'll never forgive Hall and Holden for dropping those beautiful dimes by Bryce in the fourth quarter against Georgia that killed the drive and made us settle for a field goal.

Not to mention Ja'corey Brooks misplayed a pass the play before the pick 6, at the UGA 15…it was a similar pass to the one Brooks caught to send the Iron Bowl into OT but for some reason he tried to one-hand it…would’ve been a good catch but one he had made before. Also think our TE dropped a TD pass earlier in the game and we had to settle for a FG…a lot of drops in that game…
quote:

O-line was fine in 2021.

Tell Bryce Young that. The Bama QB got sacked 41 times in ‘21 (2.73 / game); second worst in the SEC, they were ranked 120th out of 130 teams in protecting their QB nationally…

LINK

…you and I have different definitions of ‘fine’…

Young was a generational QB whose abilities and performance covered up a lot of deficiencies, and not just the OL…
You put Milroe behind the 2009, 2012, 2015, or 2020 OL and few would be bitching about him…since 2020, our OL has been average at best and subpar otherwise. Looking back, Bryce Young covered up many of Bama’s OL issues, to include some snapping issues and a lot of pass blocking issues; Bryce Young got sacked a lot in his two years as a starter and hit even more. Had Young had the OL’s mentioned above, we’d have two more natties…

It’s obvious Milroe was nowhere near Bryce’s league as a QB when it comes to reading defenses and going thru progressions, not many of our QBs have been. But the OLs mentioned above could’ve masked at least some of his issues…

While I think it’s time for a change, all this talk about him being our worst QB ever is pure BS. The dude was undefeated against LSU (outdueling Jayden Daniels in 2023), undefeated against Auburn (got revenge on the 10th anniversary of the Kick Six), and undefeated against UGA (winning the SECCG, preventing them for a likely threepeat); Kirby, Kelly, and Hugh couldn’t figure him out even though several in the conference apparently did...

He was pretty bad in a few games…but I’ll remember him for the games mentioned above more than those, in addition to him keeping the team together after Saban retired. And I’ll never forget the look on the stunned faces of the AU fans in Jordan-Hare after 4th and 31, absolutely priceless…

My prediction is that if the OL is subpar again next year, most will be blaming them instead of Simpson (or whoever the QB is)…
quote:

Not sure where you're getting that. Against Georgia last season, Milroe had 14 carries for 29 yards and zero touchdowns.

That includes 4 sacks for -38 yards; on designed runs he had 10 carries for 67 yards…

Go back and watch the end of the game; when we had to run out the clock on the last possession, Milroe ran for two first downs. When UGA knew he was gonna run it, they couldn’t stop him and Bama ended the game with a mercy knee…
quote:

With any other quarterback Alabama taking snaps, we beat Auburn last year and this year by at least three touchdowns.

Mayhap so…but in exchange, we lose in the SECCG to UGA last year and we lose to UGA this year. UGA had a Jalen Milroe problem; unlike Oklahoma, Tennessee, & Michigan, UGA never figured out how to stop him from running…
