Just can’t imagine how other position players feel about that attitude. What if 3rd team linebackers start refusing to go in games ? Could get dicey

It won't be a problem because no other position (excluding specialists) is like QB. In all those other cases, everyone on the 2 & 3 deep gets a chance to play and contribute a lot. The 3rd LB off the bench for Bama's going to get snaps on both defense and special teams. Other than not seeing his name on TV during the first possession, he's not going to feel left out of the action. Heck, blow one guy up on kick coverage and he's on Sportscenter.

That's just not the case for the QB. Barring injury, there's only going to be one guy on the field for every play until the game gets into a place where it doesn't matter who is in the game.

Did anyone hear the rumor yesterday that Jalen was going to quit the team?

To me he did "quit the team" if he is only interested in himself and keeping his two years of eligibility. Are there stipulations to an injured Tua and when Jalen will play? Does Tua have to be out for the year or just a few games?

Not sure how to feel about parents working out a transfer plan for their kid that lost his starting job, but I'll be glade to be rid of these parents. And we thought Blake Barnett's parents were bad.

I mean, it's weird but it's the time we live in. To me, Jalen has done enough for the program though that I'm comfortable with him making this choice. If he wants to be put on the back burner and only be used if there is an injury to Tua then I am fine with that. Heck, Mac Jones might turn out to be very capable in his own right and it won't matter.

I don't think you can really plan to use Jalen though unless it's in an emergency/injury type of situation down the road. And that would be contingent on how Jones progresses.

It’s true and the parents have met with Saban a few times. After the game Jalens dad felt like he didn’t get the same play calls etc.

Maybe he didn't get the same calls, but that's because of his own limitations as a passer.

However, I seem to remember Jalen given several opportunities to go downfield. He didn't hit them.

This would be one heckuva concession for Saban to make. I know part of it would be the insurance policy of still having a backup, but a deal like this is the sort of thing I would have never in a million years expected to hear from the "you are in or you are out" guy.

I'm not against it, it's just a really strange dynamic.

They mentioned on 3 Man Front that it’s possible Saban only agreed to this if Jalen promised to not go to certain schools. He can’t restrict him with the new rules, but maybe they made a handshake agreement.

I agree, and she shouldn’t get the same calls. Use his strengths not his obvious weaknesses.

I think the new rule changes a lot of things. I mean, Saban really ISN'T a dick. Jalen is willing to stay and help out, if needed. I don't see Saban wasting a year of his eligibility out of just spite. The options are he can stay and redshirt, or leave us totally. Staying helps both parties.

# 2 can't play another snap until the SECCG if Bama were to make it that far. Hard to believe Nick would even keep the guy around the team.

I’ve avoided this topic for the most part but the parental issue is concerning. I understand that Jalen’s parents want him to succeed but with his dad being a supposed coach, how could he not see that his son was just not making the plays and make excuses around play calling?

I just find the whole idea of parents interfering at that granular of a level foreign and disturbing to me.

A pretty good solution, imo:

Make Mac the #2 QB and save the three games that Jalen could still play and redshirt for the post-season -- in case Tua gets injured so that Jalen could then be a backup for Mac.

Give Mac the #2 practice and game reps. Let Jalen get his practice scrimmage reps with the scout team so he doesn't get too rusty.

To me, that approach makes the most sense for all parties -- Bama, Tua, Mac and Jalen.

his Dad being a supposed coach, what in the hell ever made him think Jalen was a quarterback? Cost the kid a hell of a lot of potential NFL money.

The voices I'm hearing from inside (my head) say that Jalen was not the stand up guy that he portrayed himself to be last year. He was all humble pie, #blessed, when he was starting, but once he lost that job we began to see the real Jalen and the real Hurts parents. The apple usually doesn't land too far from the tree.

On the sidelines I see a Jalen Hurts who isn't really that involved anymore and upon whose face false humility no longer covers aloofness. Saying stuff like he did in August, and holding team meetings where he tells people that he's got to do what's best for him, supposedly quitting the team and his dad saying he's going to be a free agent. This guy is poison. I used to really like Jalen...not any more.

he had an RPO and a wide open receiver it he right slot broke open. Jalen appeared to be looking at him and did not throw what would have been a sure TD. He ran right instead. I don't recall how that play ended but we scored 1 FG during his time at QB

Last week Suttles said that he expected Jalen was going to start the Louisville game.

I was going to start a thread on this whole thing, but y'all beat me to it.

I was driving today when I heard the first segment in which this was discussed. Suttles said it was his OPINION, based on sources, that Jalen was going to redshirt, not play unless needed, graduate, and transfer out at the end of the year. He said that was what would make the most sense for everyone involved.

(Frankly, I think anyone with half a brain expected this scenario to play out exactly that way.)

For the next hour or so, this was obviously the main topic on the show. HOWEVER, when they would come back from break, or reset the conversation, it was no longer apparent that this was an opinion Suttles voiced. Landrum Roberts, on more than one occasion, would say something like "If you're just joining us, Aaron Suttles has broken the news that Jalen Hurts will redshirt ..."

Only once did I hear Suttles semi-correct him, saying "This is what I think will happen." The rest of the time, they invited speculation on where Jalen would transfer.

As I said, I think this makes sense, and is best for everyone in this situation. But I'm bothered by the blatant attempt to manufacture news out of an opinion in this way. As noted previously, they did the exact same thing last Friday; Suttles voiced his OPINION that Jalen would start, and they spent the rest of the show stating it as fact and asking callers to react to this "news."

It's always some excuse for Jalen. The offensive line didn't block, or the offensive coaches sucked, or the receivers didn't catch. So now he doesn't get the same plays.
