Former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu was on The Paul Finebaum Show on Thursday and explained how his "Honey Badger" nickname started on TigerDroppings back in 2011.

Les Miles made a tough decision and saved Tyranns career by taking the approach that he did. If he continued to sweep things under the rug I doubt he would be where he is today. Lots of people stepped up to guide him in the right direction and he accepted their help.

I like basking in the positivity here after a win too, John.

Well if it’s Chavis that discovered Honey Badger here, then he most certainly saw his own “3rd and Chavis” moniker here ????

They called him that at Tennessee too. It just followed him to LSU.

Yes, and this was a few weeks prior to playing West Virginia (TM7 mentioned as start). It became more and more viral. Link below but it was the Mo Isom vid (week after WVU) that confirmed that he approved.

It's crazy the amount of NIL he would have brought in had his college career been a decade later

I remember that game like it was yesterday. To this day the most exciting player to put on the P&G. He killed Oregon too. And then of course the SECCG vs UGA is an all timer.

Along with Tommy Casanova from the early 1970s, Tyrann Mathieu could simply do whatever he wanted. Both played offense and defense. Both were special teams maniacs.

Checking some dates and I feel like WVU may have solidified HB7 but i feel like we were referencing Honey Badger well before that. The infamous Mo Isom vid was just 5 days after that game, which gave his approval. LINK

Barely got out of Morgantown alive that night. We did make the mistake of setting up our tailgate right where the WVU players get dropped off for the game. Great LSU contingency and tailgated with OBJs family.
