Make no mistake, Saban is a huge Alabama fan and will always carry with him forever. They are his legacy as their coach but still has lots of love for LSU too while he was here.
Lane Kiffin knows that in the NIL environment, the days of recruiting 25 or so recruits every year, only to lose half of them to the portal the next year are over. He knows that he can build through the portal and seek out the best players looking for pay with 2-3 years of eligiblity left, as he has done this year in his first year at LSU. You have to like our chances this year to be very good, and with luck even further.
I give Kalen DeBoer a B just for coming in behind the footsteps of Nick Saban. There was a lot of players leaving and almost no hope of them fielding a really good team, and catching up with NIL etc. I think he did better than expected his first two years. Expectations this year for him to win big this year will be brutal.

He will be replaced at seasons end, and I agree it Will Not be Will Wade either. That ship has sailed.
Great to see him becoming part of the Mardi Gras scene and I’m sure his family as well. I don’t remember hearing anything about Brian Kelly and Mardi Gras.
If anything, God forbid were to happen, Ole Miss would be in ruins and would never recover financially, academically, and athletics would go down in flames.
He didn’t bolt LSU for Alabama. He left for the job with Miami Dolphins. When he left, Alabama pursued him and Les Miles was already coach of LSU.
Who cares what it cost?! You have to invest in good coaches and players to win. If it cost us 50 million in NIL and we win a NC, it’s worth it.
He was underdeveloped and did not get enough playing time. He is a beast in the NFL!

re: Could an nfl team from the 70's

The punishment and physicality of the teams of the 70’s would absolutely smoke a modern day college team. No rules back then to protect players from hits to the head, chop blocks, close line tackles and other ways that are barred today. It would be fun to watch.
I believe we will be just fine. With Lane Kiffin I trust.
To clarify, fans were not hard on Saban when he left for the NFL Miami Dolphins, but were outraged that he went to coach Alabama.
What Lane Kiffin and his staff have done with NIL and the portal is mind blowing. He and his staff hit the ground running with who they were targeting and closed on many outstanding proven players from all over.i cannot wait to see how this roster shapes up in the spring and summer practices and who will emerge as potential stars.
What a difference in what Lane Kiffin is bringing to LSU and utilizing the resources he has at his disposal versus what we saw with Brian Kelly the last 3- years.
The best is yet to come, buckle up!
LSU will probably recruit 14–15 players every year and get the rest thru the portal. Too many high school recruits will start to leave after one year to seek higher offers and more playing time.
I agree. The coaches obviously did not like what doctors were saying about his injury. He is a big roll of the dice. More upside to signing Longstreet even if we over pay a bit for him. We need a QB that has talent to develop with this staff.
If we can get him, there is no doubt he can develop well under the tutelage of Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss. Just don’t overpay for him.

No. Fans were not as upset that he went to Miami, but blew a gasket when he announced he was going to coach at one of the fiercest rivals of LSU, Alabama. Saban would have liked to come back to Baton Rouge but unfortunately Les Miles had his old job, thus he took the Alabama job and the rest is history. Imagine if Drew Brees had passed the physical at Miami?
Be patient. Let it play out. I trust Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss will have us in a good position to get who we want in the portal. There are still players that will announce portal entry after the playoffs and NC.
I was with a group of friends from Long Beach Mississippi and we hung out in the quarter had dinner at Mr. John’s Steakhouse, and had as much fun as I have ever had in New Orleans watch LSU beat Oklahoma on TV. What a great memory!
If he doesn’t want to be here, we don’t want him. If he’s getting bad advice, and dumb enough to take it let him go. Lane Kiffin and this staff would have worked well with him.His choice.
This guy cannot be depended upon when needed.
