Just like the waterfowl migration, it vanished.

Saw a 2-3” spike walking aimlessly through the cutover but that’s it besides red birds and crows. About to get down and go eat a couple bologna sammiches and probably sit on a small food plot with the wind in my face this afternoon.

Greensburg, LA
Doe or pig hunt

AR 5.56 loaded with IMI 77 gr razor core topped with 4x14x40 Nikon.

Sitting on camp porch watching the driveway and logging road until rain stops then to a tripod in fresh cutover. Saw one button buck walking up the logging road so far. Good luck to all out in this fantastic weather!

Lou Holtz said it’s never good to go back so… burn that bridge down to the water line.
Yeah, let’s ride with what works.

The last shoot I attended was put on by Hilltop hunting club off of hwy 449, south of Pine Grove, LA. The finale was a 75 yard shot at $10 shot to win $100. Most people were shooting turkey guns and chokes with the “new” 3.5” lead loads. All I had was an 1100LT20 gauge with the issued 7.5 dove load and I was impressed that 4 pellets hit the paper. The turkey guns didn’t do any better at 75 yards but they did beat my little 20, lol.
Texas, Tennessee and Florida are the only states below the Mason/Dixon line worth leaving Nebraska for.

Where is it? I want to enter, I’ll bring my late grandfather’s Steven’s 311 full/full 30” tubes. That left barrel was a turkey winning fool back in the 80’s.

Set up on the water’s edge, where the hardwoods turns to cypress swamp, you’ll get an opportunity at a doe or pig fosho.

I’ve owned a 1965 742 in 30/06 and a 1972 742 in 243. They’d both jam if I tried to shoot anything but plastic tipped bullets, guessing that’s why I picked them up cheap? I’ve passed em down to a younger crowd with a note, “Use ballistic tip or SST ammo only”. Hunted with both on a few sits but never killed with either, they definitely were a boat anchor to pack around, nothing I’d want to haul up a mountain.

Hunted an 80 acre tract just south of you in Easleyville back in the 80’s. Miss that place, loaded with wild persimmons and crabapples. Early October evenings were magical there.

Looks delicious! I melt vanilla ice cream then soak the bread then into a hot skillet, good stuff.

Turkey shoot

Just what in hell happened to this event. When I was a kid, I’d run targets for the American Legion or the volunteer fire dept or whoever was putting these on to raise money. Seems like every small town in southeast Louisiana used to do these but ain’t heard anything about one in a long time.
