College Football Insider Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports has reported that LSU is preparing to offer Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin a seven-year deal worth at least $90 million.

The deal would make Kiffin tied for the highest-paid coach in College Football.
quote:

Meanwhile, in Baton Rouge, key LSU decision-makers are gearing up for a formal offer to the coach and his representatives. While specific details of the contract remain fluid, sources told Yahoo Sports that school executives have discussed a seven-year, incentive-laden deal worth at least $90 million — figures that would make Kiffin, at the very least, tied for the highest-paid coach in the sport. The school is, as well, promising significant NIL-related roster investments exceeding $25 million — perhaps the most important determining factor for the coach.

Despite comments last month from Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry critical of high-priced coaching contracts, the state’s top elected official has blessed the university’s lucrative pursuit of Kiffin, led by newly appointed athletic director Verge Ausberry. While there is brewing confidence in Baton Rouge that the latest push will lure the coach into a commitment, Florida administrators and top donors have felt similarly in a chase of the coach that dates back weeks.

Both LSU and Florida officials are cognizant of Kiffin’s indecision and remain engaged with other candidates in a pool that includes, but is not limited to, Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz and Tulane’s Jon Sumrall, who many believe to be the leading candidate in Auburn’s search to replace Hugh Freeze.

Jeff needs to stay in his lane and try to govern the state. Leave LSU athletics alone and let the LSU hierarchies take care of LSU athletics.

He is leaving Ole Miss!!! Why would you be flirting with this when your team is about to be in the playoffs?? It's the NCAA to blame for because they allow coaching hires and the transfer portal to happen before the season is over. It is not fair to the team or fan base!

He wants to have a big time school to coach at. Ole Piss isn't a big, electric, prime school. That's why he will leave. And out of the 2 remaining big brand schools, LSU is the best place to land.

How long would Ole Miss be able to spend 25 mill a year in NIL? Also, Ole Miss still can't get top 10 recruiting classes.

The amount of money allegedly being thrown at a guy who hasn’t won anything beyond regular-season games is mind-boggling to me. I could understand it if he had won conference championships, made the playoffs, reached a Final Four, or competed for a national title, but what has he really accomplished? That doesn’t mean he won’t eventually get there, but based on what I’ve read, paying $13–14 million per year feels pretty risky.

Everyone has been assuming that OM gave CLK a deadline.

I think it’s the other way around. He’s given them a deadline by which he either wants what he’s asking them for or he walks. He’s the one in control here…not the OM Athletic Dep’t administration. This is why he’s being allowed to drag this out through the Egg Bowl.

What would LSU do if OM came up with an offer of 15 million per year for 7 years of $105 million? and a healthy NIL amount?
user avatar
this will be another disaster at LSU. Do not expect much. LSU will not learn its lesson. 90 Million dollar contract? Will Kiffin ever care if LSU wins or loses? After 100 million, Brian Kelly sure as hell didn't.

This is the type of leak that comes from Lane’s agent. They want it out there to add fuel to any offers out there. Maybe OM or FL will step up which might spur LSU to put a cherry on top.
