quote:transfers are allowing everybody a chance to have more draft picks.
They also seem to have issues developing talent. Besides the 26 draft they've averaged 3 to 4 players a year drafted.
TAMU's top 8 draft picks (the ones who went in the first 4 rounds), 5 of them were transfers and 3 of those transfers were one and dones. The remaining 3 guys who stayed with them from high school were OL and DL. Out of the people who usually get drafted from TAMU, they were usually OL, DL, or LB. So now they can get transfer DBs and WRs and it works in their favor.
It's actually scary how consistent it is since Jimbo. Every now and again you'll see a DB or WR in the top 4 rounds in TAMU's SEC tenure, but if you go over just Jimbo's tenure (2019 draft through 2024 draft) of their 15 top 4 round picks, 11 of them were trenches or LB. Of the other 4, two were RBs, one a QB, and one a TE. Also, if you go after Elko's first year, all 3 draft picks were DEs.
So over a 7 year period before 2026, of their 18 top 4 round picks, all 18 played the closest to the line of scrimmage and only 4 didn't play OL, DL, or LB. TAMU had a myriad of 5 star and high 4 star DBs and WRs, and none of them panned out until they started getting them from the portal last season.
That will get you the 8-4 moniker all the time. Good line play with a good run game will keep you consistent, but it won't get you a championship.
With all that said, IDK why they are waisting so much on high school players. Money isn't the only thing making them leave.

IDK what you want my man. LSU has IMO, the best QB in the state, the best RB in the state, and is still pushing for the best OL and WR in the state. They have one of, if not the best TE in the country from the state, Anding's lil bro is a safety that is considered the 2nd best safety in the state, and i personally think we have the best corner in the state.
LSU can end up with 7 of the top 12 on 247 and Rivals composite and possibly 8 of the top 12 on the composite if we can convince Simien to stay home (i am 100% convinced Royal will flip to LSU). Once you remove the redundancy of 3 QBs being in the top 12, LSU could legit finish with 7 of the top 10 which is about on par with what we always do in Louisiana, and again with Simien, 8 of the top 10.
Also, Lane is not going to load up on high school guys. He's likely taking about 20 guys from high school. We may pick up 4-5 more guys in state. So 9-10 in state and 10-11 out of state.

quote:We kicked off Perriloux and he was going to be the damn starter that year. We had to play a kid from Harvard, a redshirt freshman and a true freshman in his place. Peririloux's release actually started a gap between 2008 and 2019 that we had ONE good year at QB. Every other year could be described as the downright horrendous to slightly above mediocre at best. Since 2019 Burrow we've had 2021 Max Johnson (who was good with a couple really bad games thrown in), 2022 JD5 (who was really good with a couple of really bad games thrown in), 2023 JD5, and 2024 Nuss (same as 2022 JD5).
This dude is delusional. We’ve disciplined multiple players over the years and kicked some off the team for fighting, smoking weed, etc… including one of the best players to ever suit up.
Idk that theres a world where even LSU fights this hard for eligibility for a player gambling on his own team.
We kicked off what would have possibly been (had he stayed his 3rd and final year), the best play ever from LSU. Think of Mathieu as a junior. He would have been a 2x all American + freshman all american, likely 2x Chuck Bednarik winner and 1x Thorpe award winner (would have been twice but Mo was so damn lock down and electric himself AT LSU). I also think we beat Bama and finish 12-2, losing the SEC championship game, but beating our BCS bowl team. I mean you'd have had to retire the #7 jersey at that point right?

Oh my God we are bringing back the juking RBs. Now we could end up with two of these guys that make people look silly in a phone booth. He has 4.4 speed too I can tell.

I am. He's just playing the leverage game, as are all the 5*. LSU calling his bluff is a good thing!
Green didn't get a crazy pay day to come here and now he's getting no less than 750k this year.

Dude. He was a cheat when we got him from Michigan State. He didn't lure some of those Florida athletes up to East Lansing because of his personality. I recall talking to another LSU fan about this the week we hired him.
Anybody taking up for him on this are hypocrites too. Dodge chargers and stacks of money for any good kid coming in as a freshman. Social media had this everywhere.

He is correct. Of course he is omitting the fact that Bama cheated at recruiting during his entire tenure there and he retired ironically just as the field became somewhat even among the big money schools.
The hypocrisy in his words is astounding. We all know damn well Alabama talked to Boutte and Ricks. That's why they kept asking for more money. We convinced both to come back, but Bama tried it multiple years. Ricks thought he had Stingley value.

Yeah he has a cool pod. I think he just graduated or graduated last year from LSU. He gets some good sideline video at practice and during games. Several of his youtube shorts and tiktoks of LSU have gone viral (the one when Baker juked the DB at practice was almost everywhere).
It's an LSU sports podcast, but he talks about the Saints and Pelicans too.

I'm not saying he can't help here and there, but I already see people salivating at the mouth to give him unjustified praise if the DL improves greatly and the recruiting improves. Nobody will have any reason to believe he has any effect on those things, but he's the front face that everybody knows.
never understood why people say this. He bleeds whatever program is paying him the most- Miami, USC, Ole Miss, Tenner, etc. Here are the absolute facts:
1. He quit from LSU as a player. Does that sound like someone who “bleeds purple and gold”?
2. He destroyed the program from “quitting on LSU” as a coach after receiving a huge contract extension.

I'm going to personally give all praise to the position coaches and recruiting coordinators if things improve unless someone directly mentions O as instrumental in something improving.
re: 2027 5 Star EDGE Will Visit LSU Instead of Texas | KJ Green
Posted by Datbayoubengal on 5/25/26 at 3:19 pm to Captain Crown
quote:I tend to disagree. Mascona was talking about how LSU's staff view pass rush vs CB coverage and they think because QBs aren't as accurate as NFL QBs, that a good CB unit takes a backseat to pass rush. That is a flawed thought process because not every year do you get easy opponents at QB. Last year we saw an outlier on terrible QB play in the conference. The best QB Ole Miss played last year was Gunner Stockton or Carson Beck. Stockton was decent at best and Beck racked up stats in a bad ACC.
Get the lines right and they can make up for the back end
Ole Miss's pass rush was worst last year than 2024 and 2023 however they had a better pass defense. You know why? Because of the QBs. Before 2025, Ole Miss's pass defenses from 2021 to 2024 were between the mid 50s and mid 80s in that span the SEC was loaded with good to heisman level QBs. Seriously go look at the QBs Ole Miss played just the last 2 years where they had way better pass rusher, but both pass defenses were in the 70s and 80s. I've always thought Ole Miss's CB play was bad outside of Trey Amos, and when Matt mentioned it, I 100% understood why. They don't prioritize it. That's why I'm glad we have Raymond.
I'll give you another point. Look at LSU's pass rush in 2022 compared to their pass defense. LSU was almost a top 30 pass defense while playing air raid Leach who's QB threw for 3900 yards and 35 TDs. Bryce Young's final year, a 6th year senior in Jordan Travis, a 5th year in Hendon Hooker who was having a heisman level season before injury. You could say KJ Jefferson had a similar season to Gunner Stockton's 2025 year and Stetson Bennett was a better version of Carson Beck from 2025. Even first year Jaxson Dart was average at worst. Now go check how good they were in getting to the QB in 2021 and compare it to the pass defense. You know what the difference was? LSU had a bad secondary in 2021, but the 2022 secondary. LSU had all these heavily experienced multi year starting CBs and safeties we got out of the portal. Bernard-Converse, Mehki Garner, Greg Brooks, Joe Foucha, added to guys like Jay Ward who was already here.
I will say it again. A good secondary can hide a mediocre or bad pass rush. We had a top 40 pass defense despite being middle of the road in sacks and pressure. We also played a much better group of QBs than Ole Miss did. A good pass rush can only hide a bad secondary if the QB isn't really good. This year there are many playmakers at QB in the SEC. Several are legit dual threat studs.
When you get a top tier pass defense with a top tier pass rush, you get the 2016 LSU defense (5th in country), or the 2010 and 2011 defenses.
