Until I watched Joey B in 2019, I thought Newton was possibly the best college football player I had ever watched play. I had him and Tebow as the top two.

Joey B wouldn't have won a NC with 2010 Auburn, so Cam is probably still the GOAT.

Cam would not have won an NC with 2019 LSU. Joe Burrow is and there is no doubt the GOAT!!

Cam would have won it all with 2019 LSU. Joey B would not have won it all with 2010 AU. There were probably 4 or 5 SEC teams that would have won a title with Cam.

Amazing that Cam Newton could run like that while wearing a corset and high heels.

Without Cam Newton that team struggles to make a bowl game. Their defense was absolutely AUful.

First half defense was atrocious. 2nd half defense was elite.

Nick Fairley dominated us that game.

Oh yea that was Cam Newton that held the bama offense to 3 points in the 2nd half of the IB! GTFOH!!

Terrible football teams don't win the National Championship.

They did that year. Cam saved them nearly every game.

They had the best player in the country on defense

Yet all he won was the Vince Lombardi Award (laughably the player "who best embodies the values and spirit of NFL's legendary coach Vince Lombardi"... I guess Lombardi was infamous for dirty hits).

Da Quan Bowers won the Nagusrki
P Peterson the Bedarnik
Von Miller the Butkus

Great player but not in the league of Miller, Peterson or JJ Watt (who had better stats than Fairley that year).

Agree with Paleo. Fairley was dirty AF. Y’all were also gifted a win against us.

Nick Fairley 2010 was the best season by a defensive player in the SEC since Derrick Thomas in the 80s.

And I was so confident that Lutzenkirchen was going to be a star in the league …

Well, he died, so that precluded much of any shot at an NFL career.

Oofff. Didn’t realize he died. RIP.

A serious hip injury ended his NFL hopes before he died...

MS State should have paid him the money…

MSU would have messed it up. They are eternally doomed to play Charlie Brown to the universe’s Lucy and have the football pulled away at the last moment.

I mean he didn't exactly have scrubs at those positions. That "stat" doesn't tell the whole story.
user avatar
ukraine_rebel31 months
While he didn’t have scrubs he didn’t have a Jamar Chase or Julio Jones either and still performed a hostile takeover of college football in one season. Imagine if he had the talent of a 2019 LSU around him…

They are forgetting a rather formidable defense.

Had a lot on the cusp nfl talent on offense. Dyer self imploded. Then a bunch of dudes made it as UDFA but never saw the field. Defensively there were studs particularly DLine/Edge.
user avatar

Being able to run over people in college like Bo Jackson and good enough at throwing to make teams honor the deep ball gets you far in college. The defense was also good.
user avatar

People forget that Nick Fairley was a beast! He and Cam were almost solely responsible for that comeback in Tuscaloosa. Michael Dyer at RB was also awfully good before he imploded as a human being.

Yep name escapes me but, The Ohio St QB that played QB won 5 games and a NFL contract. Though I will say he had more weapons and not as good as Cam.

Never saw a football player at any level so utterly dominate a game like he did at Auburn.

As a buddy of mine said , “we lost to the Auburn Cam Newtons this weekend”

That AU defense was very effective against Oregon in the title game. Cam's supporting cast was not bad at all. That was a very good team.
user avatar

Without Cam they would’ve been like 2008 LSU - 8-5.
user avatar
TouchdownTony31 months
I have always said that without Cam that 2010 Auburn team wins 5 games. He wasn't the best pro but at Auburn he was a fgn machine that was basically unstoppable.

I figure it’d be more like ‘09 where we won 9.

college football was down that season.

not really. Arkansas got HOSED in their game at Auburn and would have knock Barn out.
user avatar

Maybe as a whole but Auburn came out of the toughest division in CFB history.

So they saying that Auburn paid off the refs? I believe it.

spuat is still pissed about paying albert means 180k and getting probation auburn might of paid 130 and go a national championship.

Not a lot of ROI on $180k
user avatar

Incredible post from a Kirby Smart Georgia team, that even broke Alabama's spending on players.. in these 6 years over $200 million - a la Rush Propst's evidence... and more five star players in every game than major SEC teams fielded in two decades, Incredible..

RandySavage30 months
An undefeated natty for 180k? That's a better ROI than getting in on the ground floor of Apple.
