The engine turns the shaft which connects to the propeller.
The rudder is controlled by steering pumps. They should have two of them onli...

Usually large vessels will have a right handed fixed propeller. When going astern, especially full astern, the ship will torque with the bow going to starboard and stern to port. You will also have no control and be at the mercy of the vessel ...

All they said was the channel is dredged to 51 feet. If vessel finder is correct, 40ft of draft. I don't have paid versions of those apps so I don't know if that's correct ...

If the construction guys on the bridge are using radios to communicate, they won't be on the same channel as the bridge to bridge channel in the port. They probably aren't even on the same freque...

I don't know what you're getting at. Generally when a ship is in a port underway, the local pilot has the conn and navigates the ship. This is worldwide also.

The pilot navigates the ship and has the conn.
