Map Trivia, not Highway:
The State of Tennessee has four "corners": NE, SE, SW, NW.
The longest distance from one of these to another of these corners is the NE corner to the SW one, approximately 500 air miles.
That same 500 miles away from the NE corner of TN (albeit in a different direction) would put you in NYC.
If you take any of the distances from each individual corner to the furthest other point still in Tennessee and see how far that would extend away from Tennessee, it takes in all or parts of 27 US States and some of Ontario.
NC is similar, look at the driving distance & time from one end to the other:
10 Hours and 600 miles to get across NC
