During his Hey Coach radio show on Thursday night, Nick Saban make it clear that fans should never expect to see a uniform change while he is coach...
quote:

“That’s why we don’t change uniforms all the time. We wear the same uniform,” Saban said. “They want to wear white helmets. Everybody wants to do this and that. To me, there’s an expectation that when we run out of the tunnel, this is the brand. This is the culture. This is what people expect to see.”

“We have a responsibility and obligation to do it to a certain standard and level of excellence and with a lot of character,” Saban said. “That’s kind of how I try to preach it to them.”

Uniform changes are gimmicky. The real G’s don’t play that Mickey Mouse shite.

Gimmicks do not make a winning team.

He gets it.

Meanwhile we got folks wanting 6 different combos at lsu “cause it looks fly”. Never let 20 year olds decide your brand.

Old man take... shouldn't let 20 year olds decide much of anything.

I hate how much I agree with him.

Such an old man take. His premise is accurate, but only a Sith deals in absolutes.

You don’t have to be Oregon, but some special uniforms once a year to get a bunch of 18-22 year olds (and recruits) hyped is not diminishing “the brand”.

What up T-Bob?

Obviously Saban's take on uniforms is ruining recruiting and the players can't manage to get hyped up to play in games. Great point.

I like it. Gimmicks aren't for every team.

Alt uniforms are cool and all, but they don't means crap when it comes to wins and losses.

Still can’t help but respect Saban. The guy shares my opinion therefore he’s really smart.

The changes we do for non conference games have been mostly cool. There have been a few that made my eyebrows raise, but it's fun for the players. We're ok, I decree it.

Keeping a brand consistent is a luxury afforded to a market leader. It’s the pursuers who have to try different things to take market share.

I look forward to the day when Bama starts to slip and can’t figure out why Saban’s Consistency Theory doesn’t hold anymore.

That's a pretty weird comment, considering Bama has been consistent for much longer than Saban's tenure.

Eli Gold right before Iron Bowl kickoff "Auburn in the white jerseys over the white pants with white headgear with AU on the side. Bama in the Crimson jerseys over the.....aw heck folks, you know what we're wearing." Priceless.
I love how Saban say "the brand". Alabama wears this. Thats who we are. That's what people recognize.

Gumps have worn white helmets in the past.

They were an occasional alternate helmet until they were retired in 1971. Ray Perkins brought them back for a game in the 80's, but we haven't seen them since. I'd actually like to see a redesign of the current helmet, more than an alternate color.

On occasion(once a year) something fun for the players is a good idea. Usually against a team that is not a traditional game or rival only. As Saban mentioned your brand is important if you are Historically a great football school. For instance Oklahoma has some great traditional uniforms and play around with them way to much IMO.
