During his Hey Coach radio show on Thursday night, Nick Saban make it clear that fans should never expect to see a uniform change while he is coach...
quote:

“That’s why we don’t change uniforms all the time. We wear the same uniform,” Saban said. “They want to wear white helmets. Everybody wants to do this and that. To me, there’s an expectation that when we run out of the tunnel, this is the brand. This is the culture. This is what people expect to see.”

“We have a responsibility and obligation to do it to a certain standard and level of excellence and with a lot of character,” Saban said. “That’s kind of how I try to preach it to them.”

He's not wrong...

Because he doesn't have an alt uniform as good as LSU's white helmet, purp jersey and white pants. So clean!

Just like your opponent's uniforms after playing LSU.

Always funny to hear him talk about character.

There is no reason to ever watch a regular-season Alabama game again anyway. Before there was some question if a 2-loss team would make the playoff. Now with 12 teams E$PN will make sure they are in every year!

Fashion shoes are not required for Championships.

I think he's proven funky helmets and ugly jerseys don't win championships. And, evidently, they aren't that important in recruiting judging by the times he's had the #1 class.

I agree with Coach Saban on this.

Bama was a middling program for many years before Saban and they will be again after Saban. Bama is going to turn into Notre Dame with illusions of grandeur and not much to back it up.

Middling program? That is a ridiculous statement, Alabama could stop playing football today and none of the programs in the SEC would catch up in 100 years to the SEC and national titles that Alabama has won. Alabama has been really good in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 60s, 70s, 90s and 2008 until now. At times they were an average to above average program but very seldom.

Yea I HATE Bama like a white hot poker shoved up my arse BUT the one thing their Program hasn’t ever been, at least for long, is Middling! They had a down turn for what 10-12 years from late 90’s till Lord Saban arrived in ‘07-‘08!

I am not sure why my first post got so many downvotes and the "middling" comment has 10 upvotes. It must be what most of you HOPE will happen, good luck with that! Whatever helps you sleep I guess.

It doesn't hurt to make small change from time to time.

You mean like the pro combat uniforms gumps wore in 2010?

Whoops. Gumps downvoting you for this.

They still looked exactly the same, they just slapped a “pro combat” label on it.

It had an American flag patch smaller than the CFP championship patch that they typically wear yearly. I think the pants had the script A on them. Nothing noticeably different from viewing distance. Nice try though.

I don't care either way but nothing wrong with having an alt uniform once or twice a year.

i like a throwback uniform every now and then, but usually hate "new" uniforms.

On occasion(once a year) something fun for the players is a good idea. Usually against a team that is not a traditional game or rival only. As Saban mentioned your brand is important if you are Historically a great football school. For instance Oklahoma has some great traditional uniforms and play around with them way to much IMO.

Gumps have worn white helmets in the past.

They were an occasional alternate helmet until they were retired in 1971. Ray Perkins brought them back for a game in the 80's, but we haven't seen them since. I'd actually like to see a redesign of the current helmet, more than an alternate color.

Eli Gold right before Iron Bowl kickoff "Auburn in the white jerseys over the white pants with white headgear with AU on the side. Bama in the Crimson jerseys over the.....aw heck folks, you know what we're wearing." Priceless.
I love how Saban say "the brand". Alabama wears this. Thats who we are. That's what people recognize.
