dad == 44
mom = 35
had a brother 9 years older than me
and a sister 7 years younger.
My mother told my wife soon after we were married
=> "have your children closer together."

I was working at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis when the first announcement was made - everything stopped and people started trying to find out more about it - phone lines were totally tied up - nobody could call in or out.
I had been working on a simulation of the Gemini Docking maneuver in a closed cockpit and didn't hear about it until I noticed the commotion outside and got out. People were stunned - nobody knew what the heck was going on.
Then I noticed a group of people who seemed to be joking with one another - I drifted over to hear what they were saying and found out they were actually happy over the news - will never forget one of them saying "I wish I could have been the one" - I had noticed this group during lunch time talking about politics and had thought of trying to join in if I ever had the time - they were members of the John Birch Society (had never heard of it - and this episode made me think I wanted no part of it.)
It was a sad time - I had not voted for him, but considered him a good POTUS - probably responsible for my being in the space business.

Kennedy assassination.
That is the first TV story that I consider "major news" - was at work when the announcement was made that he had been assassinated - but saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald two days later on live TV.

1954 - was listening to radio one night and they broke in with the news that Roger Bannister had broken the 4-minute mile barrier.
Went to school the next morning and nobody would believe me - considered it impossible.

If I were a wise democrat (if there be such a critter) and had to debate Bessent, I think I'd just bow out - this guy is unflappable and he knows his stuff - qualities hard to beat.

Its a legal loophole. Which is why LSU informed Kelly he was still going to be paid his salary to keep their "options" opened while they tried to negotiate a settlement.
I am greatly unschooled in legalese but the above sounds like a good thing to me.
I interpret it to mean = "let's settle on an equitable separation so we don't have to fire you 'for cause'."
Now, if he has reneged on the agreement to settle within reason, pull out the 'for cause' accusation and kick has arse back to ND.
assuming of course they have a 'for cause' cause.

re: Why can't Bills be single issue? Why do we allow so many things in one bill?
Posted by ChineseBandit58 on 11/11/25 at 10:27 am to Napoleon
Single issue legislation is the way is it SUPPOSED to work - they had to come up with the 'omnibus' scam so they could wait til the last moment and slip in all their kickback bullshite and blame the 'other side' if anyone objects.
It is the ONE thing I'd love to see implemented - single issue. PERIOD.
Take a moment to decide if it is a worthwhile item to fund and then do it & move on to the next item.
But that would make it harder to cheat - and "We have to pass it so we can find out what's in it" would become a rallying cry for "NEVER AGAIN!!!" attitude.

How can anyone downvote this post.
To me - anyone who registers a downvote on a comment like this should be banned from participation in any forum that actually prides itself on encouraging fruitful debate on political topics. Anyone with the attitude of booing THIS has no business doing anything but hauling fake ballots for a disreputable political regime.
