The SEC West was a joke of a division in 1998 though.

Then why didn't Ole Miss make it to Atlanta?

We had our chances to fire Nutt earlier but Nutt survived back to back losing seasons since the 50s. Butch Davis a Springdale native had cleaned up Miami and turned them around. He jumped to cleveland then went to North Carolina. Rumors of him wanting to come here at the time were false but as years went by the truth started coming out and he did have a strong interest of coming here. But our dumbass PTB wanted to keep Nutt instead.

So yes if you keep making retarded decisions then you deserve to be at the bottom.

It was a good football team

I guess Miss State was the 2nd best team in the division that year, and I remember Bama being pretty much in control of that game from start to finish. It was a close game on the scoreboard for most of it, and Bama got a late TD to seal it.

And as they often do in Jordan Hare, Auburn jumped out early on us, but we dominated them in the 2nd half. Maybe there was a safety and late TD at the end of the 1st half that kind of turned the game around?

Yea that was a really solid State team. Great defense, pretty bleh offense. We sealed that game with the "we covered the decoy" pump n go to Shamari Buchanan. Awesome game, great atmosphere. Those were fun State teams full of Characters - Smoot, Pork Chop, did the Who Let the Dogs out dance before kickoffs.

Yea they gave us all we wanted - that was our first win in Jordan Hare. We sacked Ben Leard on possibly the worst offensive playcall I've ever seen where they ran slow developing play action in their own end zone. We kind of ran away with it from there.

Onve we survived in the Camback game, nobody was beating us in Atlanta that year.

Lol yeah I remember La Tech beat Bama twice in three years. They had Tim Rattay and Troy Edwards. Obviously not a good loss for an SEC team, but they were a solid mid major

This was my thought - who thinks their team would've had a better result playing Cam for a second time?

2014 Mizzou was definitely not as good as their record, they lost to Indiana and 30-0 at home to UGA. But they still won 11 games so it's hard for me to put them there.

Using those 11 wins, which ones were quality?
Beating an 8-5 Minnesota team in the bowl game? Wins over UCF and Toledo?

The best conference win was over 8-5 A&M by a TD.

An 11 win team like that would be an 8 win team with a tougher schedule.
For the record, this mirrors the 2011 UGA team that won the division. 10-4 with all losses to ranked teams. No quality wins. Give UGA a tougher schedule and the record only falters more.

Our 2011 team wasn't very good, but I feel like 2016 Florida probably is the worst one. 2002 Arkansas wasn't great but Matt Jones made them dangerous on any given day.

Mac somehow won enough games to sneak in, but the SEC East has basically put trash in Atlanta for most of the last decade. 2012 was a really strong year with UGA, UF, and USCe being insanely good teams. Georgia the last few years has been better but man. East has sucked arse.

I remember walking into the stadium in 2014 (Missouri) and 2016 (Florida) thinking there absolutely no chance we were going to lose the football games.

I thought we'd win in 2015, but I was definitely a bit concerned because of Florida's defense and our offense's knack to kind of go cold sometimes that year. 2014 Missouri and 2016 Florida were just very average football teams.

2015 Florida might have been formidable if Grier hadn't fricked up (fortunately right before their game with us) and their offense kept improving. Had a great defense

I knew we were screwed in the 2014 SECCG. Our only offense was Mauk rolling left and throwing deep to Jimmie Hunt. That was our only offense for the game

Just like Nutt's teams they had quarterback issues. Matt Jones had shoulder problems since high school which hurt his arm strength. He had the option of getting surgery but it might be worse off. So he played with a hurt shoulder and zero quarterback development.

Tavaris Jackson RIP was competing for the job in spring 2002. He had a rocket arm but Nutt refused to development him and he transferred. He ended up getting drafted and started a little bit for the Vikings.

In an alternate universe where Nutt did help Jackson at QB. Jones would be moved at WR. That changes the dynamics of the situation as they are no longer one dimensional.

The 2002 SEC title game could be a little different as the Georgia defense would have to worry a bout a 6-5 tall 4.3 speed at WR and a quarterback that can not only throw but an effective scrambler. Arkansas led the SEC in rushing that year, so that would open up the run game more.

I don't know if they would win but the score certainly wouldn't be 30-3.

That season is perfect example of why Alabama will still be good after Saban leaves. If Mike dubose can make that great of a team anyone at Alabama can. Even Shula had a 10 win season.

2010 South Carolina

Not even close to being the worst. Just ran into a buzz saw in Atlanta

Beat Saban’s Alabama team. Played us pretty well in Auburn.

Had healthy Lattimore, Alston Jeffery, Stephon Gilmore, DJ Swearinger, Melvin Ingram, Garcia
