Auburn isn’t winning 10 games in the near future

With the transfer portal and extreme roster turnover these days, Auburn could win 10 games by 2024.

Ole Miss can only by law offer a 4 year contract... Auburn can offer a 6,8,10 year contract. Stability is worth something.

Ole miss can easily get around this by giving the contract through the OMAF. It’s not something that’s absolute

Kiffin is waiting for either Saban to retire or Sark to flame out.

Problem is they share the state with Bama and it is a very competitive recruiting area.

Auburn's alumni base has more money, they have a better stadium, and they have better overall football history. Taken without context, this is a no-brainer for Lane.

Taken with context, going to Auburn would mean a full rebuild of their roster, playing Georgia every year instead of Vanderbilt, and a lateral move in terms of location (Oxford and Auburn are both small college towns).

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about Auburn stealing Kiffin away, but he has some pretty good reasons to stay. We have a talented roster, have an 8-1 record, and are still mathematically in contention for the SEC West. Kiffin would not have that at Auburn for at least two seasons. It all comes down to what Kiffin wants long term - does he want a blue blood job a few years down the line, or does he want the small school job with good money and moderate expectations?

Very reasonable take. I think a more conservative coach would likely stay at Ole Miss for all those reasons. I have no idea if Kiffin will, if Auburn is willing to pay the premium that would likely be required.

It only takes a a year or two to turn around a program that has the history and resources, especially with today's transfer rules.

Seven teams have played in two or more CFB national championship games in the past 15 years.

Alabama - 9
Clemson - 4
Ohio State - 3
LSU - 3
Georgia - 2
Oregon - 2

and

Auburn - 2

That's all you need to know. As much as I hate Auburn, that program is one of the best in the country, as far as finances, fan support, and overall potential. As far as the BCS and CFP championship games over the past 15 years, they have more appearances that Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, USC, Texas and every other program not listed above.

Another caveat to this whole thing, his daughter is living with him for the first time since his divorce and she is going to ole miss. His son, is moving in with him next year. He spent all summer with him in Oxford and loved it. He wanted to move in with him but it got pushed back a year. He has friends in Oxford planning to attend Oxford high school.

Ole Miss to Bama? Nobody debates that.

But people debate Auburn / Ole Miss because, well, it’s debatable and unclear.

The only people debating it are ignorant.

Auburn is undoubtedly a better job, no slight to Ole Miss, it just is what it is.

It's not a debate for anyone neutral...
OM fans are coping
Bama/UGA fans fear Kiffin at AU - so much so that Bama fans are saying stuff like "why would he go to AU when he could come to Bama in a couple years??"

Auburn's boosters would be a big problem. They have a history of going behind the back of the AD and president. I wouldn't want to be trying to operate under those conditions. OM used to have a similar, though not as severe, problem but it has recently been largely eliminated. Kiffin can run his own show in Oxford but would always be looking in the shadows at Auburn.

Without context, Auburn’s money, fanbase, history, etc. makes it a better job. But if we’re talking about Lane Kiffin, specifically, he’s already built a pretty good program at Ole Miss and taking the Auburn job in its current dumpster fire form would mean taking a step back and losing more games in the short-term.

Is Auburn ultimately where Lane Kiffin sees himself finishing his career? If so, then he’d take the job. If not, then he’d probably just keep winning at Ole Miss until the job he actually wants opens up.
