If you fail at Ole Miss, you have to coach at a very small school to rebuild your coaching reputation.

If you fail at Auburn, you get a shite ton of money and a spot in the U.S. Senate.

No brainer.

If you want to win anything in this conference, you have to beat UGA and Bama anyway.

Ole Miss just recently learned how to pay players, Au has been at it for decades. Also everybody who loses at Au leaves as a multi-millionaire

Sure, but Archie and Eli aren't the most dynamic dudes in the present culture. Meanwhile you've got Barkley doing NBA every week.

I'm not trying to trash Ole Miss here, but Auburn has just always had big personalities repping it. It's been discussed that adding Deion to that mix would be rather insane.

If you reversed it, from the Ole Miss perspective:

Less meddling boosters
Full control over branding
Not playing UGA every year
Not being in the same state as Saban

Auburn is the objectively better job but there are some legit downsides.

Lmao. I’d love to see the amount they give compared to other donors, bet it isn’t much.

I'm just not sure the UGA/Bama part is a negative for a guy like Lane, but I'm just speculating here

If anyone wants the platform to get into it with those schools every year, one would think it would be Kiff

Auburn is a program on decline. They'll never reach their previous heights again because now EVERYONE can pay players. Aubie will settle down in the lower third of the conference with Mizzou, Vandy and the Mississippi schools.

Old Mrs is a bottom feeder program. I will say they are gaining a reputation as a great place for unproven coaches to make a name for themselves before moving on. Like LK is doing.

Very reasonable take. I think a more conservative coach would likely stay at Ole Miss for all those reasons. I have no idea if Kiffin will, if Auburn is willing to pay the premium that would likely be required.

So here is what makes me pause from automatically being afraid Kiffin is going to bolt.

1. Auburn is a tier 2 job. That is not meant as a slight to Auburn fans, it is just factual that, while being a “big 6” program, it is the bottom of the big 6, with some programs like Alabama and Georgia (who they have to directly compete with every single year) being clearly better jobs/programs, i.e. tier 1. For this hypothetical scale I would consider OM as a tier 3 job fwiw

2. Lane is still young, but not that young. We are hypothetically assuming his goal is to one day get another premium job. I do not consider Auburn to fit this bill, and some might disagree. While Auburn is definitely a better job immediately compared to Ole Miss, I do not think it’s a job that would be possible for him to elevate from any further. Reason being is that if he is indeed successful at Auburn, at that point I don’t think there would be any reason to leave from there. However the flip side is that it could very easily kill his career if things go south which has been proven time and again.

Basically if you are already an established coach, and you choose to go to Auburn, you have to be in it for the long haul imo. This seems to be much more of a risk than the potential reward.

3. Comparisons between OM and Auburn from when Tuberville left are no longer accurate imo. Tuberville was very vocal about our confederate imagery hurting recruiting and his outspokenness led to us banning the flag at games. Along with that the gulf between monetary support and facilities was much larger then than it is now. And finally Alabama, LSU, and Georgia at that time (1998) were not the giants they currently are.

With all this said, if Auburn and OM were both open at the same time it would be an easy choice. But that is not the case, and making the jump from one to the other is just not as simple as you would think. Auburn fans who think he will easily jump imo are being arrogant and blind to their own shortcomings, and OM fans who think there’s no way it happens are just as ignorant. It’s a complicated situation

It is a better job but not enough to make a jump when you could have better jobs opening up. Also he won't have to deal with the crazy expectations in Oxford.

I don't think anyone doubts that Auburn is a better program historically than Ole Miss. It's really not close.

The issue is the current state. Kiffin is rolling at Ole Miss while Auburn is kind of a dumpster fire right now.

Lol OM fans. You can’t fill your small stadium and lane has bitched about that before. Auburn can.

You made a post that you had to justify them being better but not. Your argument has many fallacies.
