For starters, apparently they have glory holes everywhere…

This is questionable over the last few years.

Auburn’s boosters appear to be full blown psychopaths so there is that

I believe you are thinking of LSU's Coates Hall

Auburn's alumni base has more money, they have a better stadium, and they have better overall football history. Taken without context, this is a no-brainer for Lane. Taken with context, going to Auburn would mean a full rebuild of their roster, playing Georgia every year instead of Vanderbilt, and a lateral move in terms of location (Oxford and Auburn are both small college towns). I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about Auburn stealing Kiffin away, but he has some pretty good reasons to stay. We have a talented roster, have an 8-1 record, and are still mathematically in contention for the SEC West. Kiffin would not have that at Auburn for at least two seasons. It all comes down to what Kiffin wants long term - does he want a blue blood job a few years down the line, or does he want the small school job with good money and moderate expectations?

Excellent analysis.

Congrats on your win over us this year and I think Lane stays there.

Auburn has as many SEC Championship game appearances as Ole Miss does 9+ win seasons over the last 25 years.

The fact that people are even debating this shows that it’s a lateral move.

Ole Miss to Bama? Nobody debates that.

But people debate Auburn / Ole Miss because, well, it’s debatable and unclear.

The fact that Ole Miss is 8-1 and Auburn is 3-5 this year, and still discussing Auburn poaching your head coach should tell you Auburn is a better program.

Auburn football will suck for a while. I think we are in 2000s Tennessee territory. May be while before AU football gets their shite straight.

I would say a move from OM to 4&8 to be a more lateral move than from OM to AU

No offense to Ole Miss, which is a cool school, but it feels like a smallish program by SEC standards. Auburn has big ambassadors (Tim Cook, Barkley, Bo, etc.), it has big rivalries - hell it has big scandals. It's just a bigger brand in every sense. Now whether you want to jump from Ole Miss to Auburn given you have a good thing going and the CFP is going to expand, etc., is a different question. But if both jobs were open it's extremely unlikely someone would choose Ole Miss over AU, if you want to think of it that way.

Agreed. It’s the bigger/better job but not so big of a jump that it’s a given that you jump at it.

Ole Miss can only by law offer a 4 year contract...

Auburn can offer a 6,8,10 year contract.

Stability is worth something.

After being enlightened on the Auburn job.

It appears Auburn is going to potentially “Jimbo/Mel Tucker” Kiffin.

Give him a long guaranteed contract to get him to jump. Kills two birds with one stone.

Surely the Auburn coach wouldn’t jump ship to Alabama once Saban retires.

Jimbo has the same record as Bryan Harsin. Let that sink in.

And TAMU paid him $75 mil.

Can y’all leave the board again please?

Currently Ole Miss is the better program and that’s not changing anytime soon.

Ole Miss is coming off a 10-win season and about to post another.

Auburn isn’t winning 10 games in the near future

Thank you dragonmaster. I hope he does stay, but we Rebel fans have always known there was a chance Lane would jump ship if offered a job at a better program. Our state law about four-year contracts for public employees also hurts our chances here.

Historically it definitely is a better drop, present day with the expansion of the playoffs and the inability of a coach to have autonomy over the program
Is pretty even job

Remember when Auburn went winless in the SEC?

Then, the following year, Auburn played Florida State in the national championship game?

Ole Miss can't do that. I don't think Auburn will be doing that again either though...

Correct

If anyone can turn it around quickly it is Auburn.

Yes. I am jealous.

You should know by now that predicting anything Auburn does is useless.
