What is the appeal of rivalries?

I honestly don't get why so many people hate one team more than all of the others. It seems like such a pointless mindset. I see all SEC teams as the same... opponents. I see so many LSU and Ole Miss dick waggers on here and it just seems like a waste of energy.

I agree.
Ole Miss should've let Lane coach the playoff just like Tulane and JMU did with their coaches.

If serious-
Throwback to an earlier age. There's over 100 schools, people used to accept they couldn't play everybody. You weren't worried about "national" anything. But you wanted to beat your rivals, schools close enough that you all recruited the same kids.
LSU-Tulane, LSU-Ole Miss, Ole Miss-Miss State, etc.
Then, if you were in a conference, you normally shared a lot of things in common (not just geography), and they were also rivals to beat

I look at the schools that were in the West and Florida as rivals. I despise Auburn and have a respectful hate for Florida. After that they're really all the same to me.

Because Ole Miss has never been a great program and had to overcome another opponent year after year to win. Until you know what thats like, go back to making Kiffin threads

100% agree with this post. Ole Miss should have just accepted it like Tulane did with Florida instead of crying constantly that still happens to this day.

State & Ole Miss are rivals but I do not dislike Ole Miss. When I was young I did but in my old age, I actually want both of our teams to win so that when we play each other, the game means more.
For example, I was pulling for Ole Miss to win in the recent Regionals and CWS.

In Texas the workforce has so many grads from so many different football powers that Monday mornings are always interesting. Jawing with your fellow worker creates great rivalries.
