This.
Rivalries are as ingrained in the culture of college football as conferences.
It’s also part of the fun. I mean I know we’ve suffered a long time against our two main rivals, but when we recover it’s going to hit like crack.

If you have to ask...you should stop watching sports and find something you passionate about.
Because rivalries are very important to fanbases in sports. From Yankee-Red Sox, the Iron Bowl, to Michigan-OSU, Texas vs OU, Lakers vs Celtics, The Florida trio(UF, FSU, and thugU), Packers vs Bears, LSU vs Auburn, Duke vs UNC, Kentucky vs Louisville, Barcelona vs Real Madrid, etc..
They are fricking huge in sports.

You can love rivalries without hating the other side. I know many will disagree. Plenty of Texas fans I know absolutely despise Oklahoma and Aggie fans. I don't get it and I never have.
Why don't you hate us? Are we not good enough for you to hate???

Is this thread legit and is it a reaction to LSU always beating Ole Miss? Rivalries are fun.

Not sure about the other rivalries - but the Missouri - Kansas rivalry dates back to actual war and 10+ years of citizens of each rigging elections, attacking the other, sacking entire towns, and killing one another. Makes a friendly (and maybe sometimes not so friendly) weekend in the fall with food, drink and football seem like a much better alternative.

I don't know how old you are. Pre ESPN before we saw games on every channel, rivalries were cool. Like when USC vs Notre Dane or Oklahoma vs Nebraska was the game of the week. Those games were awesome. Another one I watched in the 70's as Aggy vs Texas. Mostly on or around Thanksgiving.
Some think it's watered down because we can watch whoever we want at any given time. I am not in that crowd. I want LSU to play Bama, Florida and Barn every season. Anticipation leading to those games is half the fun.

Yeah, I get it but I see every SEC game that way, not just MSU or LSU.

LSU hasn't won in Oxford since before covid, so not sure that "always beating Ole Miss" quite checks out. All conference games are fun. I don't see why some people value some more than others just because of the name.

I don't see why some people value some more than others just because of the name.
Thus, rivals are simply designated teams that have a caused a critical mass of other teams' fans aggrieved feelings

It's what makes college sports so special.
The passion.
