don't think Kirby coming to Georgia came with extreme hype, then really not much of a conversation to be had.

Hype means nothing without results, which didn’t come until year 2.

AKA he worked for Saban.

So I guess none of Saban’s staff are qualified for outside jobs based on their own merits? None of them contribute anything of value?

I’m pretty sure Nick Saban would disagree with you.

Do what? ND,UF,A&M plus AU and UT on the road.

And we play UF,Mizzou,AU,A&M and GT all in a row without an off week.

when did dabo turn into an A+ coach, was it when he landed deshaun watson? Becuase I remember his tenure prior to watson being pretty good to really good and that's about it. He didn't seem to be an A+ coach when he was trotting out cole stoudt at QB and losing by 3 touchdowns to richt. Funny how elite recruiting can make you look better.

Clemsons' classes:

2019: #10
2018: #7
2017: #16
2016: #11

And yet he has 2 national championships in the past 4 years while Georgia recruited higher ever year.

Dabo > Kirby and is doing what people thought Kirby would do. Georgia taking a hit in recruiting because of it so far this year too compared to previous years under Kirby. Still early though.

I think he will, he was as close as you can get to winning the title and they should have won it.

They have the #3 highest average star rating at 93.20 and are probably going to sign 3-4 more 5-stars. If that is taking a hit I'm guessing they are ok with it.

He's getting a reputation of being a coach who just can't seem to finish.

Only if you ignore the 2017 seccg and rose bowl. Finished those 2 huge games off quite well.

Where did I even remotely say this?

I said Kirby got his hype because of Saban and that people expected him to turn Georgia into the next Alabama. His recruiting success so quickly was built on this fact.

Georgia fans didn't want to admit it and when you all tried to name a single accomplishment outside of Saban that would warrant such hype - you really had nothing.

It was a good hire and a no brainer for Georgia. Who wouldn't want a guy who spent so much time under Saban and learned from him? Just admit it.

Many of the staff that come to Alabama do have their own accomplishments outside Saban. Kirby isn't one of them.

It's gonna be tough. I think their best shot was 2 years ago when they lost against bama. They may not get that chance again. Like I said though, it will be very tough in the sec with all of the programs they have to beat in their own conference just to get to the conf title game and have to beat an elite team once again in order to simply make the playoffs. I don't see uga and kirby winning a national title. Jmho.

The luster is wearing off of uga. They're not anything special. They're not sneaking up on anyone anymore and will have a tough row to hoe from here on out every season. I lost a lot of respect for uga and smart after watching LSU beat the frick out of them in tiger stadium last year. They just got totally dominated. I have always said that Georgia high school players get way overhyped due to their proximity to the major media hub in atlanta. Their players never seem to be as good as they are hyped up to be coming out of hs. Their talent is overrated due the national publicity and bias they receive. It has always been that way and nothing seems to have changed. Overrated players, overrated coach, overrated program. That's uga in a nutshell. 1980...nineteen-eighty. If they have this hotbed for talent like these "experts" say they do every year, why haven't they won't a title in damn near 40 years? That just doesn't make sense if they have the talent in georgia like they are said to have. Maybe, just maybe, they're not as good as they are built up to be huh? That's my take on it.

Our entire point was that Kirby being hyped was not equivalent to him being billed as the “next Saban.” Every new coach of every major program is hyped up no matter who they are or what their background is.

Of course Nick Saban is a big part of Kirby’s coaching experience. That does not mean he doesn’t have identifiable merits of his own, even as an assistant.

Mostly because in the most important games he seems to fold.

I don't think many are going to be winning Championships as Clemson keeps building. A+ coach with A+ recruiting will always beat a C- coach with A+ recruiting.

Weird how UF fans don't consider the SECC or playoff games improtant. When was UF's last SECC or playoff win?

So far this year they have the #3 ranked average star rating of commits. I would consider that pretty good.

I"m not sure why people keep saying this. Unlike wiht donnan or richt, there isn't necessarily one year to point to where everythign comes together. Our roster has gotten to the point (and while likely continue to do so since it's now 100% kirby recruits) where every year we should be in contention. Next year will likely take a step back due to some big losses, but there's no reason '21 and onwards can't be just as good as the last couple.

It’s more about the will to win it than the talent. I think UGA has been so close the last two years that this year they will be ready. That’s why I picked them.

Ok, let's start of list of Kirby Smarts merits when h was hired at Georgia:

1. Learned from Nick Saban.
2. Played at Georgia.

It's a good hire because of #1. But if he doesn't perform and build his own merits as a HC soon, that hype is going to fade and places like Clemson and Dabo are going to steal it.

I searched for the article I read 6-8 months ago but the main point he made in the article was about was the hours you put into recruiting. Even when you go home you take your work with you. A recruit texts/calls you you’re expected to respond or answer the phone. Kirby is a great coach. I know that hasn’t equaled championships but besides 2 coaches in cfb who can say that right now. If Auburn thought he’d leave we would have already fired CGM and thrown the bank at KS. KS won’t leave for another college. UGA is his dream school but the NFL is a much more lucrative gig.

And how you say that compares to previous years, the actual conversation?

Because I never said their class was bad.
