Highly disagree wiht this. Kirby was never being billed as the "next saban", there is no "next" saban. Kirby just comes from the saban tree and was his longest tenured assistant and a mentor of sorts, but kirby has recruited well his entire career. He simply took his good recruiting to another school

It's the entire reason Georgia even hired him to start with. And you can bet your arse everyone knows it when Kirby recruits.

If you don't think Kirby coming to Georgia came with extreme hype, then really not much of a conversation to be had.

His point was that, unlike say an arkansas vs bama situation, it's not like we view that series as hopeleses with no chance to win.

So is the definition of a "Good loss" or Moral Victory? It's over my head....

The best thing that could possibly happen for all of college football to remain a delightful place is that they win a title, get investigated and busted, have to vacate that title, and forever be humiliated.

Might not have to vacate the title. Auburn won one in 1957 while on probation for paying players, and they can count theirs, so.....

True, no idea on a time frame. I don't think it's out of line to think he'll be here ~10 more years or longer, and I certainly don't see any reason thus far why he can't end up with 1 over the next decade.

Mostly because in the most important games he seems to fold.

I don't think many are going to be winning Championships as Clemson keeps building. A+ coach with A+ recruiting will always beat a C- coach with A+ recruiting.

Extreme hype =/= next Saban

Georgia hired Kirby because of his resume and uniquely ideal fit given his background.

He didn't in the 2017 SECCG, or the playoff game at the Rose Bowl. He has won the last two WLOCP's. Are you sure you have some idea of what you are talking about?

I'm pretty sure you don't.

BTW, which big game has Mullen won?

Oh my bad, I wasn't aware of all the really successful head coaching jobs Kirby had before Georgia.

Actual resume: Worked for Saban.

you're now talking about something you just now entered into the conversation. Nobody said there wasn't hype, obviously there was hype. I'm saying nobody expected him to be the next nick saban.

Mullen won the final game of his first season.

Kirby is 1 - 2 in those games.

Finishing a season strong is the point. True, Georgia was playing for a National Championship.

True, he shite his pants during that game.

True, Georgia got to play a tough team in Texas.

True, he shite his pants during that game.

He's getting a reputation of being a coach who just can't seem to finish.

Is that part of it? Of course.

There was also plenty of evidence that he was qualified on his own merits, both as a defensive coach and recruiter. Throw in the hometown recruiting advantage, and it was a great fit that even a Jeremy Pruitt wouldn’t have been.

Gotta get to the big games before you can win them. Maybe Mullen will one day.

when did dabo turn into an A+ coach, was it when he landed deshaun watson? Becuase I remember his tenure prior to watson being pretty good to really good and that's about it. He didn't seem to be an A+ coach when he was trotting out cole stoudt at QB and losing by 3 touchdowns to richt. Funny how elite recruiting can make you look better.

Ok fine, tell me where did all the hype around Kirby come from if not Saban?

I'll wait.

Being the DC for multiple championship teams and a primary recruiter for a huge chunk of those teams. In addition and specifically for UGA, a former player and local product.

What merits did he have outside of Saban?

0 head coaching experience.

I just can't figure out if people are serious or trolling. Nobody knows, Kirby may win 10-11 a year and never get over the hump. That would be disappointing for Georgia people, but it would still be a very good run. The guy has already won a SEC Title. He was one drive away from a national title. He's recruiting at a Top 3 level and has a Top 3 talented roster in America. How many other coaches have done all of that going into year 4?

Just seems so weird and silly to act like he's a dumbo because he's lost 2 close games to frickin Alabama. Considering he will probably be at UGA after Saban leaves Alabama (and not to mention the fact that it's stupid to act like it is a given he won't beat Saban at some point), Kirby will be in as good of position as anybody when Saban finally does hang it up.

Let's put it this way - who would trade their current program position for the present and future with Georgia?
