There it is folks, the Moral victory card.

How is that a "moral victory card"? All I did was state a fact. Do you not think the games were close? Did I try to hype up the losses at all? This is the type of Bama Bandwagon fan I was talking about.

No. It didn't. A loss is a loss.

In fact, UGA has lost 5 straight to Bama. Folks seem to forget that. Saban is 5-1 vs UGA in his time at Alabama.

Could go either way imo. He could win one or just get close. No doubt they are recruiting elite. The SEC East is the weaker divison. Bama may block them from a title.

Since you're a USCe fan we'll defer to your expertise on the subject of losses.

I"m not sure why people keep saying this. Unlike wiht donnan or richt, there isn't necessarily one year to point to where everythign comes together. Our roster has gotten to the point (and while likely continue to do so since it's now 100% kirby recruits) where every year we should be in contention. Next year will likely take a step back due to some big losses, but there's no reason '21 and onwards can't be just as good as the last couple.

Winning a national title is really frickin hard. Kirby was as close as you can get 2 years ago and has recruited well enough that they'll be in the conversation basically every season.

Not much else you can ask for IMHO.

His point was that, unlike say an arkansas vs bama situation, it's not like we view that series as hopeleses with no chance to win. You can simply look at the last 2 and see that we're right there neck and neck wiht them when we play. It's not a moral victory, it's just pointing out that we can in fact hang with those guys. LSU on the other hand..

people don't forget it, it's just that saban against late-era richt is entirely irrelevant to the conversation. Just like the win over them in 2007 is entirely irrelevent to modern day. The only ones that "matter" are the last 2, and there's a lot of positives to take from them along wiht the negatives.

I think he’ll win one but I honestly don’t think he’ll be a coach in college as long as some do. He’s said in the past he prefers the NFL as far as work load compared to college. I think if an NFL team comes calling with a serious offer he’ll take it.

This is all true.

However, I think much of the reason Kirby found success on the recruiting trail to start with is because he was being billed as the next Saban and everyone was jumping on that.

Georgia already recruited pretty well on Richt. Kirby took it another level up.

The longer he goes without success the harder it's going to be. He's not going to be building any further reputation, he can only lose it.

Now if he wins a National Championship and maintains the drive, it's going to be a force. Otherwise, he really will end up as Richt 2.0.

Only remote way the NFL offers him, and he accepts is if he accomplishes multiple national titles at UGA.

Nothing about him indicates a guy who can't maintain the drive, which was Richt's problem. In fact, Richt's predigree was Bowden FSU, which is far different than Saban Bama.

Highly disagree wiht this. Kirby was never being billed as the "next saban", there is no "next" saban. Kirby just comes from the saban tree and was his longest tenured assistant and a mentor of sorts, but kirby has recruited well his entire career. He simply took his good recruiting to another school.

that's true. Richt recruited about a top 10 ranked class, kirby recruits about a top 2-3 class. Big level up.

I disagree. I can see it playing out like a tom osborne or mack brown where we are up there near the top for a while adn eventually it all comes together. I mean the odds are that if we continue having one of the 3 or 4 best/most talented rosters in the country every year, at some point we're going to win it.

It's almost like people have already forgotten mark richt. The 2 coahces are nothing alike philosophically, recruiting wise, demeanor wise, practically nothing.

Kirby recruited well because Kirby is one of the best recruiters of the last decade, and he hired other great recruiters who can also coach. Drop that into a place like UGA in a state like Georgia and anybody and everybody knew that he was going to take recruiting there to an Alabama like level (he has).

He's going to sign Top 3 classes until the wheels fall off or he retires. And if you keep doing that the odds of winning a national title go way, way, way up.

I don't think he will. UF improving faster than expected, Saban is still at Bama. His best chance was the last 2 years, came close but no cigar!
