That offensive line, while not great individually, was solid and experienced. A solid Ol in football is like a solid starting rotation in baseball. It keeps you in games and you're never overmatched. Add in a HoF level player like Cam at the most important position - QB - and you can go far. As an added bonus, mix in some of that Auburn-with-a-horseshoe-up-their-arse magic and, well, you get a NC.

I believe Cam Newton at his best was comparable to Joe Burrow.

Maybe so. Totally different style of gameplay.

I doubt he would have won anything at Vanderbilt. Maybe 7-5 record.

He was in an offense that allowed him to be great. If he was at LSU with Les, he wouldn't have been as good.

He wouldn’t have needed to be as good at LSU. The 2010 LSU team went 11-2, with two 1 TD losses. Cam easily exceeds Jefferson and Lee’s production even if he doesn’t put up his Auburn numbers. And the rest of the team was pretty talented/ experienced where it counted.

2010 State team was loaded with talent especially on the defensive side. Put Cam at QB and that 9-4 team (that demolished Michigan 52-14 in the Gator Bowl) wins 11-12 games and very possibly a Natty.

QB was the only thing missing on that team. Our defense was headlined by Fletcher Cox, had a veteran o line. We lost by 3 to auburn at home and even dropped a sure fire pick 6 late in that game.

Joe B was amazing but Cam would make a less talented team look good more so than Burrow could have imo.

My comment has nothing to do with the talent level at LSU then. It's about how Les would hamstring the offense.

Miss State, Clemson, South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Oregon... get you some of this schedule Cocky the talk smack!
You are thinking of 2014 of which it was not luck. Teams needed to learn to knock the ball down and to cover the kick on a long field goal.

Go back and look at every National Champion... what team has NOT had a close game? Isn't that what separates a championship team from average?
He is still the best Jimmie Rustler on this site.

False. Gus knew how to perfectly use him

Agree with this. Gus doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his innovations. His offense at Arky was filthy. It grew stale at Auburn, but nearly won them two natty’s and made them relevant for a decade.

Auburn didn’t have NFL talent like LSU, and LSU had way more talent in general. I don’t think that’s arguable. I’d also like to add that LSU had better offensive coaching.

Have you watched the Cincinnati Bengals? Literally what Joe B does with no O-Line to protect him.

Auburn wins 7 games that season without newton. Still the greatest all around college Qb I ever saw.

That team was lucky but Cam took advantage of every lucky opportunity. One of the greatest seasons I have ever seen from any player.

Cam Newton would’ve won a national title at Mississippi State if he went there. Auburn literally bought MSU’s only hope to win a championship away from them. Rough!

If Les actually let him play QB.
