Bama and Georgia can't just buy championships anymore with undercover NIL with what NIL has done.

They will be next season. Indianas offense was gutted and most of those old geezers should be retiring from football soon.

Incumbent powerhouses are upset when the advantages of the previous framework are taken away from them?
I am shocked.
From 2006 through 2022, every single national champion except one was located below the 40th parallel. Only two other programs outside the Southeast - Ohio State and USC - realistically had a shot in the old way of doing things. Local talent was part of, but only part of, the story - there is plenty of good football and a lot of talented players outside the Southeast (many of which were going to SEC programs).
You know who isn't upset? Pretty much all of college football who stands to benefit from the new paradigm.

What "advantages" did Bama have before NIL? Besides having the best college football coach of all time?

Many of them will be jumping off the bandwagon soon. You ain’t seen nothing yet.

None man. It’s just a crazy coincidence that the natties stopped once NIL and the portal happened

Also could just be that their coach was 70 and they’re entering year 3 of a new program while everyone is figuring out the success conditions of a new paradigm.
Nope, it’s definitely that Alabama was the only school that figured out to do 100 dollar handshakes, company cars, and no-show paychecks. I was not blessed with my family’s top level athlete gene - I’m the 6ft-nothing guy who looks like a manlet next to a bunch of dudes built like linebackers (cry for me) - but I do have family who played at several SEC schools and I can tell you they all have schemes even Vanderbilt. Some just had more car dealership and other small business owners in the area interested in laundering the roster.

Most Bama fans are bandwagon,

Only because 4 or 5 QBs returned to college.
If Ole Miss QB, Oregon QB, and few others had went hed a been a 3rd to 4th rounder.

Lost a NCG and a play away from making another in the timeframe. Had their asses handed to them by the eventual champ last year who was as dominant in a single season as any other in recent years.
Bama remains competitive and atop top composite rankings each year.
It is a different environment. But, this only Bama cheated nonsense is just that. Sometimes things just don't workout and sometimes they do.
I'll stand by the transfer portal in terms of chemistry, development and learning the system is a bigger impact to team success than the NIL values. NiL just provides the incentive; the transfer portal provides the opportunity that is turbulent to roster management and on field performance.

So you agree this is a new paradigm for Bama only. Everyone can spend like they already were.
Also forgot to mention the playoff field expansion. No more eye test BS letting Bama leapfrog better teams straight into the final 2 or 4.

Haven’t sniffed a NCG since the expansion to 8 teams. No more eye test auto final four appearances for you, ouch

No one is saying Bama is the only ones who cheated, you were just the best at it. It’s why Saban tucked tail and ran from the NFL, he only came back to a place he knew would be able to stack the deck for him

If my team had the 42nd ranked recruiting class in the country and 2nd from last in the SEC to go along with the worst NIL and a post Saban era with a deer in the headlights coach... Yea I'd feel the same way.

Crazy they’ve signed top five classes in 2024, 2025, and 2026 and won 11 games last year. Because surely all of that above is true and static.

Surely your board wouldn’t be melting down then and big ol mighty Alabama at 42nd in recruiting is nothing to worry about.

Maybe you should try winning a playoff game before complaining about other teams "leapfrogging".
You couldn't even beat one of the worse Alabama teams over the past 18 years with homefield advantage and now you are 0-5.

Some of it probably is the post-Saban hang over but if you read the thread they are saying the exact same things many other fanbases are.
A few weeks ago my wife asked me who Bama's QB was going to be next season and I honestly had no clue. I couldn't even think of a name of any QB on the roster.
Never since I was probably 7 years old has that been true.
I watch football on Saturdays now, but my deep interest and love has largely faded away.
How can you be attached to a bunch of nameless interchangeable mercenaries?

It’s the reality of college football right now. Alabama has a lot of NIL but not as much as several others. They have money to sign top five classes. Just not every year. Time will tell if it was smart to invest more in the existing roster and portal than this recruiting class. They are going heavy into the 2028 class. So it seems strategic. But what do I know?
