I didn't really like the O hire. Thought it was lazy by Alleva. But he has proven me wrong. He recruited Burrow, got Brady and has recruited well/elite. He just needs solid coaches around him and he will win at a high level. Not the same as Chizik

I looked it up and all of Auburn's qbs in the last few years were "dual-threat" in highschool.

Did you even Draft? LSU did it with far more than a QB. And the cupboard is far from bare.
Further, Auburn was 8-5 the year before their dream season. LSU won 10 games and a NY6 bowl in 2018. So while I agree 2010 was a fluke, 2019 was the culmination of a meteoric rise.

Chizik was terrible at managing his roster and his teams got worse every year. Even in the Cam year they weren’t a great team, they had holes all over the place that were covered up by two elite talents.
O has improved every year and has recruited at such at a high level that the overall talent is still trending up even after having a quarter of the team drafted.

I suspect Coach O won't flame out as quickly as Chizik did
But I do think this is a legitimately open question and it's not intended to get a rise out of LSU people
Ra ra, brotherhood, cultural fit coaches tend to do really well and then collapse. Coach O is, by any measure, in that boat. He's done a good job surrounding himself with legit pieces that make the program less reliant on his persona, but it's still obviously a big part of LSU right now.
I'm not rooting for him to fail nor am I predicting it. But he's in a category of coaches that often peak and decline quickly, so it's a good case study.

This didn’t go the way you thought it would did it?

Because O didn’t go straight from mediocre/failure to big time coaching job. He was passed over for several jobs he wanted due to his previous failure as a HC. He was embarrassed and realized he needed to change. By all appearances he has.
That’s why he’s different than chizik. He was forced to change where chizik wasn’t.

I’m not saying this is the rule as it is more of an exception but what about Dabo?

Not sure why people use the fact that O surrounds himself with good assistants as a knock.
Who doesnt?
Clemson's continued success is often attributed to Dabo's skill at keeping his assistants mostly intact.
Plenty of Bammers point to the constant staff turnover as one of the issues at Bama lately.

Gene Chizik

Coach O
Had 14 from his NC team drafted in the first draft. probably a ton more.
LSU's team was more than 1 player.

The data is available. We can't comprehend it for you, that's your job. Or you can ignore reality, that's an option as well.

Damn we’re going through this again?
This is just wishful thinking by those who fear LSU’s potential.

He speaks with a bit of Cajun accent but with a deep gravely voice ..... sort of like Coach Sylvester Croom’s gravely voice.

Dabo and to a lesser extent Carroll at USC were pretty damn consistent at being motivator/recruiter/program builder types

This guy gets it. Why can't Gus?!
Gus is the Anti-Les. Les recruited QBs who should have been in option offenses to run whatever the hell he was trying to do on offense. Gus recruits guys who can barely run for what should be one of the most fun offenses in the country every season. LSU fans understand the frustration all too well.
To OP: try for a second to view the sport outside your Bama-centric narrative and you’ll see that not everything is going to repeat itself perfectly to benefit your beloved Tide. The odds of LSU being here to stay are far greater than Ed flaming out for all the reasons stated in this thread. Y’all are really going to miss getting extra credit for shutting down Les Miles offenses every year.

100% correct and good point
Question is on a scale of Dabo to Chizik to Butch Jones, where is O going to fall? Fleck is probably another really interesting one to watch.
