U of Tennessee & U of Florida are also Land Grant colleges ala 1862 Morrill Act. All Land Grant colleges were mandated to teach Military Science for 100 years, thus compulsory ROTC until 1970s.

We original boomers graduated from high school in the late 60’s. We have since learned how to Google “boomer” and the subsequent “Generation X”, even those of us who got a low number in that military draft lottery in the early 70’s when you say we were born.
1st home game 1959……season tickets…….cannot explain how I got this old so quickly!
Halloween ‘59 Tiger Stadium. Happy kid

Zach Lee was in summer school on football scholarship with plans to also play baseball. He participated in two-a-day football practice as the No. 1 draftee by the LA Dodgers. After the morning football practice on the last day to sign MLB contract, Les Miles told him to not worry about afternoon practice because he had a big decision to make. The kid really wanted to play both. That afternoon the Dodgers upped the offer to $5.25 million. He signed and he and the Miles family remained friends had stayed in touch.

$5.25 million....and minus taxes he still has most of it invested for the long haul.
He speaks with a bit of Cajun accent but with a deep gravely voice ..... sort of like Coach Sylvester Croom’s gravely voice.

Graffiti up high on outside of the stadium: “Archie can’t score with a broke bone”

We students were shocked....shocked I tell you! Uncouth for 1970.
Season tickets 1959.......Peach Bowl Atlanta 2019

Elite enough.....enough elite.

Methinks “elite” has overtaken “take away” and “fluke” as the most overused and misused terms among ranters. Somebody please move us on to a new catchword.

Take away that one fluke play and our elite players kicked butt.
Go back and read the whole story. It was in Sports Illustrated a few years ago. Not only did orthodontist Billy Cannon serve as dentist for prisoners, he was asked by the warden to take over as director of the entire medical facility. No nonsense Billy agreed with two stipulations: 1. He could fire and hire whomever he deemed necessary and 2. “When I get your mess straightened out, I go back to being only the dentist”. He did and he did.

re: Why does College Football hate LSU

College football is not a good hobby for wimps, crybabies or those with inferiority complexes.

I don’t really know how good Ohio State and Clemson are because neither is my team and neither has played my team. My team ....the LSU TIGERS....is much better than I thought just 3 months ago....and I’m lovin’ it!

re: Is a&m actually a military academy?

Posted by ROPtiger on 11/19/19 at 2:46 pm
All Land Grant colleges were required to have mandatory military training for first and second year male students for 100 years. Since southern states were a few years late to the Land Grant system.....(Civil War).....compulsory ROTC ended at most SEC Land
Grants in the late 1960s. It ended at my alma mater after my sophomore year. But because I was an idealistic gung-ho patriot ......with a low number in that first ever draft lottery......I stayed in for a commission and 2nd Lieutenant pay.
70 and counting. EBR Parish native. Lived in the feedlot barn on the university farm as a student. Roommates were 2 north LA rednecks and 120 steers. Loved it!

re: LSU and Joe Brady agree to deal!!

Posted by ROPtiger on 11/11/19 at 10:17 am
Why have Brady spend much less time creating and scheming plays and coaching qbs and receivers to spend time coordinating with line coach for blocking defensive linemen and running backs coach for teaching following blockers as well as supervising all offensive coaches including all the offensive analysts? And more time talking to reporters? Why not keep the young man doing what worked so well this year? Is it a prestige thing? It appears he works well with the non-egotistical E and O. Perhaps he, too, is all about winning, not prestige at this point in his young career.

If Brady were to be “promoted” to OC, who would he and O hire to be the passing game coordinator?

Pay the man to stay put for now and enjoy the ride.
There as a ten year old. Only season with purchased tickets, followed by years as Boy Scout usher, Red Cross stretcher bearer......and in student section.

re: Where to eat in Starkville?

Is Oby’s Cajun Restaurant not stil there? It was my favorite for 20+ years of meetings several times a year at MSU. Good po-boys, muffs, drafts, etc. BTW ....numerous new motels built in Starkville during that time. Check out Oby’s a few blocks from campus.

Buffalo Wild Wings replaced Capital Grill as watch-in site this season.
