LIV golf is so bad that a washed up former coke head can win their best tournament. Thank god they have world ranking points

The team leaderboard is the dumbest thing in sports. It’s wild that’s the thing the Yasir and the Saudis are so dead set on keeping that they’re spending billions on it and refusing any sort of merger or co-existence agreement that doesn’t keep team golf front and center.
And it’s the single dumbest thing about LIV that even their biggest “fans” forget to pretend that they care about the team results like 90% of the time

Maybe LIV let a fuse under the Japanese by kicking them all off LIV in favor of the Koreans.
Hitsasune and Hideki coming out of the gates flying in the season.
Scottie looks like he did early last year. People blamed it on the hand injury but outside of Waste Management he’s never played particularly well (by his standards) during the Hawaii/West Coast swing.

re: CEO of Microsoft AI says most white collar work will be fully automated within 18 months

Over 50% of the U.S. workforce are white collar workers, including the vast majority of high earners.
Let’s take at face value the idea that blue collar tradesmen aren’t replaceable by AI (I find it hard to believe that all white collar workers will be replaceable with AI but the powers that be won’t be able to figure out how to build a robot that can snake a drain or repair a Ford, but separate subject). Almost everything that “blue collar” workers do is paid for by the discretionary income of white collar workers.
Name a “trade.” If you go far enough down the path of where the demand comes from that makes supplying said trade viable, it’s going to be largely the discretionary income of white collar workers.
The idea that you could take 75% of the disposable income out of the country’s economy and society not collapse in spectacular fashion for everyone is laughable.
Either all these CEOs are lying through their teeth or our government and powers that be are asleep at the wheel in a way that will judge them to be the biggest frickups in human history

Who is going to hire all of the blue collar workers if all of the white collar workers have been replaced by AI?
Contractors are going to build houses for AI? They’re going to install electricity in the new restaurants that all the AI is going eat at? They’re going to manufacture watches and repair cars for the AI?
Also these same people are working on humanoid robots simultaneously. Once they get them up and running you think they can’t combine them with AI to do blue collar work? AI will be able to replace doctors and lawyers but not know how to fix a Toyota or snake a drain?
Either this is all hyperbole and AI is overblown, or it’s coming for everyone and collectively we will have to decide whether we ban it/restrict it, go to full UBI, or live in a dystopia.
People living in this fantasy world that it will come for “the other type of jobs, but not my job” is living in a fantasy world.

I thought George had basically confirmed that in broad strokes that was his ending? I.e Dany goes full French Revolution Reign of Terror/Jon kills her, Bran is ultimate king was all official ending from George. It’s why he said he won’t ever finish the books, bc we know the ending.
It was just that we lost a lot of the build up that made those out comes make sense.

Unreal is the only word that’s appropriate. Only player in the world where they need a hole out or wedge to two feet on a Sunday back nine and they do it every single time

I don’t know if Arsenal have had a true “bust” of a transfer in under Arteta. Whether it’s man management or tactical tweaks or good initial scouting (or a combination thereof) pretty much everyone who comes in eventually finds a role and a way to contribute positively when called upon.
Maybe I’m forgetting a few especially early on but the track record is such that I just don’t understand shitting on signings this early in their tenure, especially sitting top of literally every single completion and by every metric the best team in the world

It was always about holding on until Havertz was back. He’s been our best non-defensive player when healthy since early 2024.
Speaking of Havertz, another reminder that people thought he was as a complete waste of $60m until about late January/February of his first year when things started to click. Lot of short memories because there’s another $60m signing who struggled early that is rounding into form in late January early February of his first year…

Brooks has to adjust to playing on real greens for the first time three years apart from the majors

He also was never that good of a ball striker. He just putted and chipped his mind off for three years. Over time that just isn’t sustainable and he got reeled in by guys who are better and more consistent ball strikers

I would retort that they should reform their sport to where more than 5-6 teams have a realistic shot of winning anything.
Every major professional US sport you could pick any team and they have a “realistic” shot at a championship, or at least being competitive.
Closest comp here is college sports if you’re naturally a fan of a G5 school. But honestly most people in that situation pick a P5 team as well. Maybe you went to Bowling Green but you’re also a fan of Ohio State.

Game was a microcosm of the season and Arteta’s approach. He will not be bullied by pundits and opposing coaches into losing control of the game.
Chelsea needed to beat us, not the other way around, and Arteta and the team held by that all game even as Chelsea tried everything to make us forget that fact and press for the win so they could hit us on the counter.
We held the proverbial high ground, just like we do in almost every game and in all four competitions. Stay the course, play our game, and don’t give in.

They need Dunk to challenge Sir Andros, which he otherwise wouldn’t have done bc Sir Andros is much better than him on paper. At least for his first fight he would’ve chosen someone more his own level.

Speaking of Gooch, the Athletic did the math on how last year would’ve shaped out if LIV had gotten these points.
Niemann and Rahm make huge jumps, from outside top 100 to inside the top 20. But Gooch, who finished 6 in LIVs standings, would still have been outside the top 100 in OWGR.

Yeah and refusing to expand their overall event size and for over 90% of tournament participants being recruited and signed to contracts as opposed to playing their way in

Well the Tour’s official statement on Reed said he isn’t eligible to get equity until 2030. So that part at least has already been refuted

As long as PIF is willing to sink $500 mill a year into it at a loss it’ll hang around. It will never be self sustaining

lol I think the statement from LIV makes it clear they lost this round.
If you’re McKibbin or Smylie or Le Sasso this doesn’t change anything. Had any of them gone on a Niemann like tear and won 4 LIV events they would have qualified for majors under current systems, just like Niemann did.
What LIV wants is all their guys who finish mid-table on average, basically their top 25-30 guys, to be eligible for majors which this doesn’t come close to doing

It’s definitely a net positive for LIV as opposed to not getting any points. But does it really move the needle? How many guys were getting left out of invites to majors who would have benefited from this limited point total?
Hatton, Rahm, Niemann, DeChambeau, Smith, Reed were getting into all of the majors anyway. Even last year the majors created exemptions for the top 2-3 LIV players not otherwise exempt. Does this really change that calculus? It only moves the needle if someone has a dominant season like Niemann last year.
Maybe over time they can manipulate the rankings to try to raise the field strength to where it actually matters. Someone better at math would need to figure out how long that will take.
