I have to assume worst hires implies the writing was on the wall before they even stepped on campus so Mike Price was at least a winning power five coach when hired. I think Ed Orgeron should be no. 1. Matt Luke should be way up there too.

Ed Orgeron himself was a shitty coach at Ole Miss but because of his coaching hires and recruiting pipeline he laid down, it has helped us progress way further than we would have had we held on to Cutcliffe

KYfanone had to be hateful and remind me that this clown will be around for 7 years.

Houston Nutt(Ole Miss)

It sucked hard at the end and we lost to some really shitty teams but he did win two cotton bowls. It wasn't all that bad.

Put this back a year and I would say Curly number one without a doubt. It takes a whole lot to have 4 straight losing seasons at any of the big SEC schools.

This is either a troll or you have no clue what you are talking about. What DiNardo did his first three seasons was unthinkable after 6 years of losing seasons.

You are 100% right. I have family in Louisiana, lots of family. Several years ago during Christmas they were Discussing LSU football and Dinardo’s name came up. (Apparently he used to have a restaurant down there.)

Anyway. they were discussing how DiNardo had tried to clean up the program because some of the players were constantly getting in trouble and how the powers thar be basically let him know that football came first. LSU fans will now downvote me and that’s cool but my family are HUGE LSU fans down there and they were saying Dinardo was doing a good job but distractions etc hurt him.

He is definitely not top 10 worst.

Matt Luke is the answer, I agree. Keith Carter fired him just in time. Had he stayed on through last year, our program may not have ever recovered

He did indeed. Out on Highland Road not far from CCLA. It lives on as Ruffino's.

I think Tepper killed him and he just lost the team from there. The Booty brothers were a disaster.

Came up 6 inches short against Bama at Bryant Denny in '99. That was gut wrenching. The Booty name is pretty much verboten in Baton Rouge.

I have to believe it was an Italian restaurant as he was Italian. Been in BR enough to know where Highland is but never knew about the restaurant until two years ago.

Croom was a actually a very good hire.
While I loved Coach Sherrill, the program was in shambles by 2003 plus we were on probation. Then Croom had to purge about 20 additional players who were talented but malcontents. So though his record does not reflect what he did , he completely rebuilt our football program and he left a great foundation and a great recruiting class in place for Mullen in 2009.

No way does Mullen have the success he had at State if Coach Croom had not left the program in the shape it was in.

No way was he a bad hire at all.

Moorhead on paper was a good hire and he was still a good coach but he just lacked severely in discipline and conditioning.

He took us to the SECCG but McElwain is viewed far worse than Muschamp or Zook in the eyes of Gator fans

I agree with AND disagree with you on two counts.

I agree with you that Croom got rid of some serious talent because they were trouble makers and yes, it set him back several years. He did know offensive line coaching and that was a strong point.

But he had one “decent” year then went back to flopping. I think being a first time HC , especially in the SEC , left him in over his head.
We never had anything that resembled a passing game. Oh , the there was the losing to Maine. I mean, not you nor me would have lost to Maine.
