I tell ya... I don't know all the shitty head coaches hired off the top of the my head at every SEC team in almost 20 years, but I damn sure know who's at the pinnacle of this list:

Y'all can handle the rest...

Arkansas might have a couple on that list. Bama certainly does.

A top 10 might be impossible.

John L Smith (does he count?)
Chad Morris
Mike DuBose (still has a more recent SEC Championship than Tennessee)
Mike Shula
Derek Dooley
Will Muschamp, twice
Gerry DiNardo
Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss
Joker Phillips

I’m probably suffering from recency bias.

I would take Will Muschamp four more years over one year of Brad Scott

Curley Hallman was in 91 or he would be on the list.

If Alabama's hiring of Mike Price wasn't the worst, I can't wait to see who beat him!

A mediocre coach to be sure, but definitely not a Top 10 worst coaching hire candidate. He took the job when no one else would and brought stability back to the program after the Dennis Franchione-Mike Price fiascos. He guided us through probation and laid the groundwork for what eventually brought Saban to Tuscaloosa. In 2007 I most definitely couldn't see that. Now, with 14 years of hindsight, I've come to appreciate what he did for Alabama off the football field.

It's too bad that Curley Hallman doesn't qualify.

Derek Dooley is absolutely in my top 5.

Unless they jumped the reservation before they ever stepped on the sidelines, I don't think so.

No way. He elevated LSU football. He took over a steaming pile of shite, and while his last season was bad, there was at least some talent on that squad that helped when Saban took over.

List needs to have:

Mike Price
Matt Luke
Proot

If it's just coaching hires and not specifically head coaches, is Pelini's second round at LSU the worst?

How on earth did you overlook Croom and Joe Moorhead?

This is either a troll or you have no clue what you are talking about.

What DiNardo did his first three seasons was unthinkable after 6 years of losing seasons. Just signing Kevin Faulk and bringing back the home whites was a big boost. DiNardo peaked with the 1997 win over #1 Florida. Wheels came off fast in '98 and '99, in large part to stubborn insistence on his old pal Lou Tepper as defensive coordinator. One could certainly see some parallels to Ed O if he doesn't get his shite together this year but the talent levels now are very different.

At any rate, I feel pretty confident that DiNardo was not a top 10 worst hire in the last 30 or so years.

Gerry Dinardo
Derek Dooley
Jeremy Pruitt
Joe Moorhead
Ray Goff
Ed Orgereron(would be unanimous on this list if he didn't end up at LSU but his tenure at Ole Miss speaks for itself)
Houston Nutt(Ole Miss)
Joker Phillips
Will Muschamp(his impact on 2 sec schools)
And ever SC coach before Spurrier.

I can not argue with that.
And I was happy about Pelini coming back at the time.

I think Saban nailed it earlier this month when talking about how the game has changed so much because of the offensive innovation. You've got to be far more adaptive now vs. ten years ago.

I think even Ed has said as much about his time at Ole Miss

It was universally viewed as awful save for the face time he got in The Blind Side.
