I remember when every regular season game was pretty much a win or go home if you wanted to win a NC. Now I watch the games thinking "We can lose 2 and still be fine".

There was a time when nearly losing to western Michigan and losing to Iowa would’ve ended Michigan’s hopes for meaningful postseason games.

This is like half of what made CFB so uniquely exciting.

Now? There will never be a year that ND, Michigan, OSU don’t just sleepwalk into the playoffs. You can practically schedule your way into a 24-team playoff every year if your conference only has 3 decent teams.

Imagine the number of opt outs from draft hopefuls in a season that runs this long.

They’re acting like the wear and tear / injury risk of football is comparable to basketball.

How many times is the NCAA going to shoot itself in the face? I really just can’t believe anyone thinks this is a good idea. fricking whatever.

Indiana with their cupcake schedule will now make the playoffs every year and be well rested with no injuries.

That's some bullshite!

Over/under on number of years until we see a mid year transfer between regular season and January playoffs?

What happens to the bowl games? While six bowls are incorporated into the CFP rotation, roughly a dozen other games that traditionally host power league teams will see their participants slip out of the top 25.

As reported at Yahoo Sports this spring, conference executives have been discussing the creation of a 10-bowl lineup that pits power conference programs against one another in a deal where the media rights would be controlled by the leagues and not the bowls.

Opt out central, non playoff bowls doomed

Going to 24 teams does the exact opposite of this. Slay less beers and get smarter.

Go back to bowls circa 1979.

Rose: B1G vs PAC12(reincarnate)
Cotton: SWC(reincarnate) vs at large
Sugar: SEC vs At large
Orange:Big8(add two teams) vs at large

No overtime until a conference championship game or bowl.

Go for two if you want to win.

I made the argument 25 years ago that any playoff was just rearranging interest, not increasing it. But, playoffs get ratings. If “success” for a sport is “most people watching”, playoffs are good. I don’t like them, but the revealed preference for everyone involved in college football is more playoff on TV. Fans bitch about every playoff expansion and are then glued to the tv. Doesn’t even drive down regular season viewership much. They are giving us what we want, good and hard.

I’m the most disinterested I have been since Kirby lost to all our rivals and Vanderbilt in 2016. 24 team playoff and delete conference championship games would likely kill it for me I believe .

I just assume that this is being pushed by ESPN along with HCs and ADs looking for job security and a lower hurdle for contract incentives.

I was coming to ask when's the 3-game championship series? When do we follow the baseball formats?

I miss the BCS. Hell, I almost miss the old bowl system where you could have 3-4 teams claiming to be NCs after the bowls were played.
