You are probably correct, but I meant “look dumber” to courts… not to fans or sports media pundits.
Furthermore, if they don’t take the hint and drop the suit / if they actually pursue action against LSU…
Keep in mind LSU has yet to take legal action against the SEC. But they have plenty of ammo to do so. If the SEC really wants to try and go heavy against LSU, I do believe you’d see the gloves come off.
I’d say they won’t put their money where their mouth is, but they’ve been so dumb to this point that nothing would really surprise me.

Can you link this bylaw? All I can find is what is on the NCAA website, unless that is what you are referring to.
Look harder. This is the entire basis on which Roddy Gayle Jr’s lawsuit against the NCAA succeeded.
A few law firms have linked the actual docs on Twitter, but I’m too busy running around today to go hunting down links.
Just go read about Roddy’s case.

How does not rostering the players for the game today make the SEC “look dumber”?
Because they have preemptively levied an already thin federal lawsuit against LSU for alleged damages that, even if you buy their ridiculous 1st amendment argument… haven’t even happened yet lol.

They didn’t even. They tried, but they seem to desperately need new lawyers.

LSU can currently go sign these mini camp players, just like other schools have. On the contrary, if another SEC went and tried to sign Garris or Wright, they wouldn’t be able to.
This is only the case because the SEC is publicly claiming that it is, but in the same way that the NCAA’s 5-for-5 rule has no terminology explicitly excluding the class of 2022… the bylaw doesn’t define any specific type of contract other than “with an NFL team”.
That gap between what the NCAA claimed vs what the NCAA knew was written… is exactly why the NCAA had an injunction against it in the first place.
This is how the law works.
The only reason we haven’t rostered the players is to make the SEC brass look even dumber than they already look.
We are good man.
They’re incompetent.
re: How screwed is the SEC, etc if the fed case gets dropped?

The NCAA affiliated media that has been wrong about everything at every turn will of course never admit it… but I am pretty confident that the SEC might be far more screwed if the lawsuit doesn’t get dropped.

Idk who is downvoting you, because Imperial March is fire. I’d be totally in favor if only other SEC teams hadn’t already copped it.

Harris signed a UDFA contract to be a member of a team. Hutson participated in tryouts.
Harris is less of a pro than Hutson. Also once again this distinction does not matter because the bylaw itself does not make the distinction.
Idk how many times I have to say it. Legally the distinction does not matter if the bylaw doesn’t say “UDFA contract to be a member of a team”… which it doesn’t… because Sankey is an inept buffoon.

I was just trying to get clarity on what you were talking about. All I’m saying is that LSU is currently playing by the exact same rules as everyone else in the SEC, which goes against what the OP is saying
I’m saying that if we reference the actual language of the bylaw in question, there is a legitimate legal angle of attack to the contrary.

There is a binary distinction between signing a UDFA contract and participating in tryouts while having your room and meals provided. Unfortunately for LSU, that’s where the line is drawn.
You’re missing the point that the binary distinction does not matter if the bylaw itself fails to make the distinction.
Read again:
quote:
There is a clear difference between an NFL player contract vs a contract with an NFL team, and the SEC’s lawyers know this… yet the terminology they landed on for the new bylaw (that they threw together specifically to block LSU) was “contract with an NFL team”.

You said the NCAA’s lawyers until I asked the question then you edited your post to say the SEC’s lawyers.
That was a mistake but shouldn’t confuse which bylaw I’m referencing when I say

They hastily tried to make a rule to prevent a specific outcome
You want to engage the substance or just keep being a pedant?

Hey bro ;). I’m not even trying to be sneaky.
Never been temp banned & then one day permabanned by a rogue poliboard mod for breaking absolutely no rules whatsoever.
It was because I was getting surprisingly positive & significant traction posting anti-Iran war stuff, long before it was a widely popular opinion.
They like to claim they endorse free speech over there, until someone with a dissenting opinion is articulate enough to actually move the needle (as opposed to just playing the role of dumb punching bag).
Patiently sat in timeout for > 6 months until I said F this. It’s cool though, I’ll just stick to the sports forums. Most mods are cool.
Whoever approved my account clearly knew who I was.

Season opener against a non-directional school opponent who happens to be borrowing our mascot and stadium name.
Entire SEC has gone full Benedict Arnold. All NCAA media affiliate networks riding the train to nowhere with them.
Lane MF Kiffin in his debut as HC.
Record number of celeb credentials for the game + gameday on site.
Weather thus far has unexpectedly cooperated.
Idk about y’all but I am ready to run through a MFing wall & shake the earth. This is going to be vintage CFB atmosphere.
Let’s fkn geaux!

It probably would not be very difficult at all to find actual evidence of media collusion at this point.
Just contrast the NCAA affiliate network reporting with the AP & Reuters reporting on the LA prelim injunction alone.
If the federal suit doesn’t get thrown out, we should throw defamation in the bucket of counter-suits and name Disney/ESPN.

I am so excited over the prospect of being able to run the ball in the middle of the field again.
But this is more of an OC/OL thing than it is an RB thing. Far too much talent has come through that room in the Kelly era with same terrible results for anyone to reasonably blame the backs.

Why would they have done that if there were an NCAA rule lol?
