What’s going on in Auburn besides AU related things? I didn’t know there was more to that area than the university.

Primarily I believe the growth is related to the University.... college towns in the 100,000 - 300,000 population range are booming all across the country.

However, Auburn is in a great spot for growth. It's a relatively short drive from Birmingham (especially the nicer suburbs south of town). It's less than 2 hours form Atlanta. The area has one of the best public school systems in the state.

Almost all of the growth in the state of Alabama in recent years has been in 4 areas:

1. Metro Huntsville
2. Baldwin County down on the Coast
3. Auburn
4. Shelby County (suburbs of Birmingham)

I don't think its a coincidence that primarily all of the best public school systems happen to be located in these four areas. The only others are the suburban Jefferson County areas like Mountain Brook, Vestavia, and Homewood.

It’s probably counting metro areas. Fayetteville and the other towns to the north push the total population up.

Hell 800,000+ of those people live in the damn ghetto. Baton Rouge is not a college town or even a big city feel town. It feels more like a place where a bunch of people are crammed together to commit crimes and murders. Most civilized people live outside of Baton Rouge anyway. Why anyone would want to live there blows my mind. Gameday is different than living there.

Well said, I’ve never even thought about that region of the state as a booming area. Good explanation. You know your shite

First time I've heard of this - got a link? I've seen plenty of national publications ranking Oxford as one of the top small towns in the country, but never saw Starkvile on any such list.

If they are going to do that might as well count Houston part of College Station. Right down the road.

You don’t know as much as you think you know...

They get bussed in to decent parts of town such as Perkins Rowe.. they don’t live everywhere. There’s a handful of places in Br that are nice. You don’t know.

Starkvegas is actually a great small city that has seen a steady though not spectacular growth since 1920 when it was a sleepy little hamlet of 2,596.
The population is now over 25K and the population of the Golden Triangle Region (GTR) which includes Columbus and West Point is 125K+.
The city and area will continue to see healthy growth in the future. It is not a shithole at all and conversely it is one of the best areas to live in the SEC.
I was just in Knoxville last month for a week. What a urban slop of a city it is. Lots of run down areas, dilapidated buildings, houses, huge homelessness problem (which is very sad in and of itself). BR is just a big polluted city that happens to have LSU there. Not very clean at all.
I will take a small town/city with a University any day of the week over a large metropolitan area where the University Campus just a flea on the back of a Great Dane.

The red and blue glasses came off and some threats were thrown around the day that article came out

It was hilarious how indignant some folks got because one small MS town was chosen over another small MS town
