About 2 years ago CBS's 60 Minutes did a 20 min segment about the Golden Triangle and its fantastic industry and innovation. I'd say it has an official meaning.

To legitimize this data for the sake argument is ineffectual and downright strange. Having lived in the area, I can tell you that the media and residents within the Triangle wouldn't maintain any other combination than Raleigh/Durham as a metro.

Of course it does. People that are ignorant and uneducated on the topic are going to arbitrarily discount it, simply because it involves Starkville and MSU.
