About 2 years ago CBS's 60 Minutes did a 20 min segment about the Golden Triangle and its fantastic industry and innovation. I'd say it has an official meaning.

As for Durham County, NC (Durham), only 14.9% of workers commute into the Raleigh-Cary MSA.... not enough to warrant combining Durham County into the Raleigh metro. Typically I believe its around 25% that warrants including a county into a different MSA.

To legitimize this data for the sake argument is ineffectual and downright strange. Having lived in the area, I can tell you that the media and residents within the Triangle wouldn't maintain any other combination than Raleigh/Durham as a metro.

Of course it does. People that are ignorant and uneducated on the topic are going to arbitrarily discount it, simply because it involves Starkville and MSU.
