Saban remotely participated in Alabama's practice on Wednesday after he returned to his Tuscaloosa home. The coach was able to provide instruction over the phone, and he had access to a video feed that allowed him to observe practice. Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is the presumed man in charge while Saban is away from the team.

However, it turns out that a NCAA rule will prevent Saban from having any contact with the coaching staff during the game if the coach has to remain quarantined at his house. Saban would be prohibited from communicating with the team or coaches beginning 90 minutes before kickoff until the end of the game. That means no halftime speeches or adjustments from Saban would be allowable under the rule either.

A similar scenario unfolded earlier this season for first-year Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, who tested positive for the coronavirus and missed his team's game against Miami. Norvell was involved in preparation from his home during the week, but he was not able to have contact with his Seminoles staff in the 90-minute period before the game and during the contest.

If there is a loophole to be found on that rule, believe me it will be found.

That's stupid. It's not that kind of virus, NCAA. He can still use technology!

Hope he doesn't come down with the symptoms and wish him well health-wise.

This is akin to a rule that students cannot do Zoom classes or take tests when they are quarantined. So it's official. The NCAA is stupider than School Boards. I would not have expected that.

Now more than ever, you can't be too careful in these uncertain times. We still don't know everything there is to know. It's important that we listen to the experts and the NCAA are the experts. Remember, we are all in this together.

Time for the SEC to break away from the NCAA. We've proven that we are the conference making the decisions now. We don't need them.

Yeah like Sabes ever followed an NCAA rule. He'll be piped into every headset on the sidelines.

Well over 3/4 of the country has worked from home in some capacity at this point and school can be virtual.

But can't let those coaches coach from home. Could be compromised.

The NCAA has mistaken catching COVID-19 for catching the gay.

Ridiculous rule. Wonder why they put this rule in place. Hope Coach Saban recovers quickly and gets back at it soon. I am a Georgia guy but I recognize and respect greatness. Saban is the Goat of college football coaches.

This is exactly how the movie Pulse started. Everyone knows viruses can be transmitted through phones.

I know it wont happen but...the thought of Nick Saban going off like Tom Cruise' character screaming into the phone in " Tropic Thunder" ...make me laugh

Easy. Saban can't communicate with the team or staff, but it doesn't say he can't communicate with some random intermediary who then has contact with the staff.

Some random Joe in an unknown location that Saban just "happens" to be on the phone with during the game, who puts his phone on speaker phone and sets it right next to another phone that has Sark on the call.

BAM, loophole achieved

makes sense because someone can easily figure out in game signals from the TV broadcast that coaches wouldn't be able to see in person.
