What are LSU's Expectations for Kelly Next Year?

I will let you know after I see the bowl game. We have 3 QBs besides the incoming guy and I dont see us having that before the TP closes...

If Daniels plays the Bowl game and Nuss sees no time then I see him in the portal. If that happens I see TCU as a destination. If Nuss plays and does well then expectatons are WFO in BTR. If Daniels continues in the #1 spot I see us regressing because the last 3 teams we played defended him well.

9-3 would be fine with me. We still dont have the depth in key spots and Qb is still in the air. If he beats bama again that 9-3 will be so much sweeter.

He could have a better year next year and be 9-3 again.

He got manhandled in three of their four losses.

Had three or so wins that he should or at least could have easily lost.

If he goes 9-3, and only one or zero of the losses are non competitive, probably a better team even if he doesn't win the west.

That said, the season this year puts more pressure on him IMO. We've already seen fans here imagining playoffs next year with the "Imagine what he will do when he gets his real recruits in here next year" stuff.

Does that raise the bar for next year? If he has the same season again, 9-3 in the regular season, would that be satisfactory?

I think 9-3 is reasonable for next year. Just about the entire offense is coming back but having to replace damn near the entire secondary and depth still isn’t great ( although should be better than this season ) in the front 7.

Easier schedule next year, easier SEC east

FSU at neutral location in Florida
Grambling st - rent a win
@ state
Arkansas at home
@ ole miss
@ Missouri
AU at home
Army at home
Bye
@ bama
UF at home
Georgia St - rent a win
TA&M

This past year we lost one game each month.

9-3 is very attainable. I can see us being underdogs at Ole miss and bama, and a slip up else where leave 9-3

You know all about being bent over. You can't help yourself by posting in any thread involving LSU.

He is still building his roster. 8-9 wins would be satisfactory. He’s having another year of almost all new CBs. We need a new edge rusher to come out. I think he’s got OL coming together but depth most of our depth is going to be young guys.

I don't really expect playoffs. I'd be satisfied if we get back to the SEC Championship.

9 win season. He overachieved this year but I’m not going to panic if he goes 9-3 again

I have great confidence that Kelly and staff will get the most out of next year's squad. That's all I want now.

By 2025, I want LSU competing for the SEC title and CFP.

It’s not as simple as the record. Not all 9-3 records are the same. If the three losses are arse whippings (say against FSU, Bama, and Miss) I don’t think that would be acceptable. If they go 9-3 and lose a couple really close, competitive games, that’s different. You would like to see continual improvement and an obvious increase in depth (which was a problem this year). Also not being a disaster on special teams would be necessary I would think.

How do some of you say such dumb things? Daniels was fantastic against Georgia, who was clearly the best defense we played. He was 16-24 for over 200 yards on one leg and looked really good early before the game got out of hand and Georgia’s defense surely lost focus. I get you are a Nussmeier guy, but stop making shite up.

I think LSU takes a step back in 2023 but in 2024 and beyond…look out. They are going to be very good.
Next year they will get everybody’s best shot and will lose some games that they won this past season. I look for a 7-5/8-4 type season. But in 2024 , the think Kelly will have his pieces in place and they will be very good then and beyond.

I agree with your post minus the 7-5 part. We return literally our entire offense with the exception of Jenkins and maybe daniels.

FSU is actually a game that sets the table, LSU wins that my view is 10-2 is the floor. LSU has 10 starters back on offense and JD5, if he comes back, will have the Citrus bowl practices, spring practice and summer workout with 3 of this top 4 WR's back (Boutte, Nabers, both starters, and Thomas Jr). Taylor at TE is back, LSU's top 7 OL are back and their top 3 RB's.

Offense is set to go. Defense has some pieces but portal is going to be key, LSU already has 3 DL in the portal, all played snaps in P5 schools (Oregon, Arizona and Florida). Mason Smith, hurt this year is back. I think need another DL in the portal, maybe 2 and 2 DB's that have P5 experience and can come in and play

PR/KO game will be 100% improved with former 5 star Aaron Anderson from Karr New Orleans coming in via portal from Bama.

I don't know how the SEC media will rank LSU at SEC Media days in July 23 but I say 2nd likely, no lower than 3rd and a team that can win the West again.

A better overall team that might not win any more games.

Nature of building a program.
